wonderful book, mediocre movie

This movie doesn't even come close to the original novel by German author Patrick Süskind. The book is enchanting - so evocative you can almost smell the scents described vividly and richly. The book's Grenouille is ugly, amoral and at the same time able to blend so well with his surroundings as to be virtually invisible.
Most of the comments here are, well, uninspired. If you can read, read the book.
