Anyone know what this is?

reply

yes.. it's a 60 million dollar script that was made for a small fraction of that cost. I was fortunate enough to read the shooting script and it's incredible! if you look at the webiste (www.ableedwards.com) you'll see how unorthodox it was..

It's having it's premier at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin TX in March 2004. If the finished product is as good as the script.. it's going to be a great film!

What makes it amateurish? Because it was cheaply made, and it shows here-n-there that they were on a budget? Then we could say the same about Fuller's STEEL HELMET, the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, most of John Cassavettes' movies and Spike's SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT. ABLE EDWARDS is not perfect, but it was ambitious as hell, both in their use of emerging technology and in the scope of the story. Sure, green-screen had been around for years, but no one had successfully done so much with so little as these folks did.

It didn't play much outside of film festivals. I saw it at The Egyptian in L.A. The writer/director and some of the cast were there for a Q-n-A afterward. They were a great bunch and I hope to see more from them. When I finally spotted it on DVD, I bought both copies on the shelf, one for me and one for my brother who lives nowhere near the kind of theater that would recognize what is significant about this movie.

If you like Michael Bay running-n-shooting rayguns-n-robots, then yeah there's nothing in ABLE EDWARDS for you, move along back to the shopping mall theater. If you can dig more thoughtful and soulful sci-fi like PRIMER and MOON, then you'd probably have the attention span to enjoy the rewards of ABLE EDWARDS.
