trend for horrorfilm endings?

I'm not a film expert but I seem to notice that so many of the horrorfilms of the last 7 years or so have bad endings; endings that are left open or announce a lot more trouble to come. Didn't horrormovies in the past used to much more often have a happy ending? Where evil is conquered?

Or is it just coincidence that I've seen a lot of bad endings lately?

Eh. To some people a clincher is scary. The ending was the only part that got to me.

I see what you mean, to each his own. I hated it.

I've noticed this my self sandra2809. Movies just do not have happy endings any more. I'm not saying all movies need to end happy, but it's getting very depressing now. Especially horror flicks, there's no one to route for anymore cause they are all pretty much going to die. Takes the fun out if you ask me.

I like the ending of Poltergeist. They've lost everything but at least the evil is gone. Can't think of anything else at this particular moment, sorry. But I like a story to be well finished when the movie is over, preferably happy... not like it's just beginning right at the end and you go home with a feeling of "doom"

yah exactly!...

And in ''When a stranger calls''...the ending was pretty boring...

"a t-shirt,a pair jeans and converse sneakers will be ok"

reply

First of all the whole 'happy ending' thing is getting to me. 'A' smiles to 'B' then they all smile and the world is a much better place. Forget all that, everyone should die and we should all be happy, it's a 'horror' flick not a lifetime movie. When you finish watching it you should feel dirty, filthy dirty, seen too much blood dirty, had your obligatory breast shot dirty, laughed because you jumped dirty. okay so the movie sucked but the end was hilarious!!!

reply

The ending was the best part of this one.

I'd hoped for a better movie, considering the talent involved, but found myself getting somewhat bored several times through the course of it. Then...the ending.

I confess, I didn't see it coming. I was surprised and delighted and busted out laughing, feeling a wicked sense of satisfaction.

Movie: 5/10

Ending: 8/10

I hardly think it was a bad ending. I thought it was a very inventive great ending with a bit of a moral lesson thrown in there.

This is not a horror movie. A drama, thriller, yes. But you can't put this into the same category as horror movies where there is an evil entity that has to be defeated. The greed made people do terrible things, but that doesn't make it a horror. Also "happy Hollywood endings" are not always realistic & do not reflect the real world.

reply

But I so much want an escape from the real world... so happy endings make me enjoy a movie! ;-)

What would you file the ending to "The Mist" under, happy or unhappy?

They get detention! (Kyle Gass - Lower Learning)

reply

Don't think I've seen that one yet or... oh no, that's The Fog, haven't seen The Mist yet but will try to let you know if I remember

well that's the interesting thing here. why did they even all end up killing each other at all? they could have just chilled out and waited, no? i didn't get what the catalyst was for them to start killing each other...

if you say it's they would have run out of food, well then wait until the food is actually scarce. they weren't at that point where starvation or even hunger was at all an issue yet, far from it.
