What happened to the Dr. Satan character?

Does anyone know why they don't mention Dr. Satan in this one?

Rob Zombie deleted the scene involving Dr. Satan, because he thought the character was, in his words,"Too hokey" for the movie. He wanted Devil's Rejects to be more of a serious movie as opposed to House Of 1000 Corpses, which was made more as a tongue in cheek type movie...

Okay, thanks for the information.

I never thought of Dr. Satan as "hokey", I always thought he was the scariest character in the first movie.

I also wondered if he was related to the Fireflies and how they got in connection with him. But maybe it was too much to explain in TDR, without taking away from the main story centering around the three main characters vs. the sheriff.

I think RZ is wrong on that one, the deleted scene would've worked in the movie, and he did not come off as hokey at all.
