Hey all...
Today is a big day for Dutcher fans in Arizona as STATES OF GRACE opens this Friday. I'm hoping for a strong show of support. We'll see what happens, I guess. I'm taking my brother and wife to see it tonight.

Hmm...the good with the bad. That's how I see this opening weekend so far.
First...the film received a pretty good review in the ARIZONA REPUBLIC by Bill Muller...who I usually don't agree with. The best highlight is:
If I'm going to pick a Mormon film from the DVD shelf, I'm looking for Dutcher's name on the case.This shows that Dutcher is really starting to appeal to more mainstream audiences.

Yeah I feel your pain. I do not understand why LDS will not go see this film. Quality LDS films will be a thing of the past and we have the church members to blame. States of Grace was an excellent opportunity to send a message that we want quality, powerful films that reflect the LDS experience and everyone sat home. If I was Dutcher I would have lost faith in my own people. Truly tragic.
shareI heard Dutcher speak in person at the LDS Film Festival back in January and after he spoke his views on the dying genre of LDS cinema, he opened his discussion up for a brief Q and A session. One attendee said something like, "You know the prophet of the [LDS] Church, despite the opposition, is very optimistic about the work of the church going forward, and even at his age, you don't see him giving up. Richard, you're the prophet of Mormon cinema. You can't give up." The audience broke into applause for a moment at the cheering comment and when it died down, Richard Dutcher replied, with a smile and a slight chuckle, "Now, don't try to put that label on me..." and then he went on and explained how those sentiments were well and good, but the reality was that he had to "feed his family."

You supported this film SO MUCH...that it now has only TWO showings a day at ONE theatre in the valley!
Good thing you came out in droves to support STATE OF GRACE because otherwise, the movie might be in trouble!!
