What's Wosre

In this movie one character is complicit in a cold blooded murder, and all he does is wade in the ocean and yell. Then another one has sex, then attemps suicide. Why? This isn'y a criticism of the film, but of society, and usually churches unfortunately reflect the the society they are in more than they care to. Why do we feel sex is worse than violence. My parents would let me watch r rated violent movies but if there was any sezx in them, no way. I'm not immune from this, I just wonder why we see things that way.

Actually the murder committed in the film to which you refer was not "cold-blooded" but more "hot-blooded" being done in anger out of revenge for another murder.

I think what you have noticed is intentional, that Richard Dutcher is attempting to show that people take some failings far too seriously, especially compared with sins or crimes that really are evil. In general his characters react more as he would wish people to do than what actually might happen in the same situation in real life. This is shown by such things as a mission president that chides an errant elder for being stupid, rather than condemning him for sin, his companion embracing him after all is said and done, and his mother standing side by side with the girl that was involved in her son's being released early from his mission.

It is predominantly American society that finds more to censor in sex than in violence. The opposite is true in Europe.

P.S. Are you not being a little hard on Carl ? He turns away from the murder and tells his companions to do the same. He is distressed when this does not happen. I'm not sure what his legal status would be, but it certainly does bother him quite a bit.

Oh Lord, you gave them eyes but they cannot see...

I wasn't meaning to be hard on carl, but that whole part of the movie was a little to remenescent of Boyz in the Hood

Just watched it again last night...for the nth time. Great movie. I don't know how this would turn out legally in the real world...In the movie it was more about "intent". Carl's first intention was revenge but then turned to compassion. It was amazing watching Carl go through this transformation.

The only thing I can come up with on why sex is worse than violence is the ease in the commission...and difficulty in controlling natural desires.

I love this movie and whatever flaws it may have are overshadowed by the powerful message.
