STOP!! IMPLAUSIBLE STINKER! WAY SPOILERS!!

Stop it please with
a) wives who are ticked off that their husbands work and don't pay attention to them 25 hrs. a day. Historically, wives have endured through husbands at sea, at war, at jobs, while they themselves are often professionals. We have this whiney professional wife who can't think of anything to do with herself every time the hub works late but to go to bed with someone, anyone practically, because waaaaaaaaaaah "I am so tired of feeling ALONE!"
b)another cliche--the tense father-son situation and teen angst. Please make their families go away and get on with the mystery! Love it that "Vera" has no baggage but a dead father.

But it gets worse:

a) Those who hire Donovan keep suspecting him of committing crimes he's investigating
b) he should not be investigating the crime except for evidence, not to build a case--he's a SCIENTIST who in real life would coordinate forensic teams and analyze the findings, but would not interview witnesses, have an open door 24/7 to the crime scenes, take potential victims into his own protective custody...

Oh, and the whole HOUSE thing. Just because he's "older," must he have skeptical youngsters under him who end up fawning at his genius and loving him for the curmudgeon he really is not?

Interesting at first but then deteriorates.

I love PBS stuff nonetheless; I am not that discerning as long as there are British accents, curry, estates grand or project-style...throw in the multi-culture and it's fine by me, especially with a glimpse of London now and then

Some nice houses/flats in this show.

I agree with you. I hate when they get too caught up in the romance or family drama, just get on with figuring out the murder. Vera is a good example. The wife was so irritating on this show! She complained about him smothering her and controlling her but then would give him attitude about working late and not spending more time with her. Also whenever she felt lonely she would immediately be on the prowl for another man. It definitely wasn't a favorite british mystery of mine but it did have its moments and I'll take what I can get when it comes to British crime shows.
