Disappointed with the ending and who she chose **SPOILER ALERT**

She seemed like such a down-to-earth, true, and loyal girl, but how could she choose and end up with the "superficial" cali dude who just has sex with anyone he sees and then he's supposed to be faithful to her?

Whereas Dennis, the other friend, was wholesome, faithful, and loyal even after 6 years of having the crush on her...his only downfall is maybe he's not the A-type personality, the go-get-em, confident borderline cocky guy. He was good looking too, sweet, and endearing....yet she chooses the shallow guy (Fritz).

Bad ending....didn't like it all. But I was so happy for the single-mom and son....

In matters of the heart there is no choosing, Fritz wasn't a bad guy! I think he was conflicted, and he explained why he had sex with the waitress at the funeral, I don't think he is someone who sleeps around, where did you get that from?

reply

They were attracted to each other, he helped her out by handling her dead fiance's business, and he treated her like a human being.

Dennis was obsessed with her and would've been controlling. Plus, she just wasn't into him. Just because someone is into you doesn't mean your bound by the universe to give them some.

reply

Why do you think Dennis would have been controlling? He never did anything controlling in the movie, ever. And Dennis was NOT obsessed with Gray. He loved her. Just because you love someone for six years without telling them doesn't make you obsessed. It means you love them. Now, he COULD have been obsessively in love, but I never got that impression from him. And Dennis helped Gray out a lot too after her fiance died and definitely treated her like a human being as well. So I do not see where you're going with that.

Make her yours forever

The first time Gray sees Fritz, he's screwing another woman in the bathroom during her fiance's FUNERAL. That speaks volumes for the type A "dangerous" personality that evidently many women are attracted to. That "Animal Magnetism" thing.....

Dennis was obsessed with her and would've been controlling. Plus, she just wasn't into him. Just because someone is into you doesn't mean your bound by the universe to give them some.

Controlling? He loved her, carried a torch for her, he would've been faithful to her (he even explains that in the movie). But I guess by some women's standards, "faithful" equals "dull."

I'm glad she ended up with Fritz. Dennis was creepy. First of all, it was obvious that he was trying to move on her as soon as her fiancé was in the ground. On top of that, he was boring and needy. At least Fritz was caring and protective of her. He showed no interest in taking advantage of her in her state like Dennis. It was just natural for Gray's and Fritz's relationship to evolve; nothing like with Dennis who was trying to steer it that way. There is a difference between being nice just to be nice and being nice with an agenda.

If you recall, when Gray kissed Fritz (she did make the first move) and he responded, he obviously felt bad about it and left. He noticed the look of confusion on her face so he didn't say a word when leaving; giving her space. When she later tried to bring up what happened between them, still realizing she was uncomfortable about it, he pretty much signaled that she didn't need to worry about it. He didn't force anything and acted like someone who really cared about her feelings.

He didn't try to make anything happen. He was just understanding and giving her space to figure out what she wanted.

He even tried to take care of the deceased fiancé's son's mother with his own money.

He kept his distance and you could see that he saw her in a new light when she confessed to all the things Grady never knew about her. Any feelings he had for her at that point were just confirmed. She then comes to him in the middle of the night.

Dennis just played the lovelorn guy who just didn't have any chemistry with her. Kind of a wimp.

He put down what she had said about fish and then criticized her deceased fiancé. When she tells him that she does love him but not in the way he wants, he says "that's great" in a condescending way and walks away. What a jerk.....he shows absolutely no regard for her feelings.

Returning to the house later, Dennis stomps off into the house (not helping to unload the car) like a spoiled little boy who didn't get his way. He pouts and acts likes an immature child complaining that she should have told him she was in love with someone else. Why should she and what business is it of his?

I just felt bad for Fritz when he overheard Gray tell Dennis that she didn't love him and that what they were having was "nothing...even less than nothing". He obviously was in love with her and she just dismissed him. Again, showing his concern for her feelings and situation he leaves, letting HER off the hook as far as their relationship was concerned since he obviously thought she didn't love him and was probably still confused.

I'm glad Fritz and Gray ended up together. After all, she packed up and drove to him realizing for herself that he was the kind of "Man" she wanted, not a wuss like Dennis.

I think Rpdf hit it spot on. Neither Fritz or Dennis was perfect but I think she was amazed by how different Fritz was from what she thought he was. She had known Dennis for a long time and he was definitely friend zone. The thing with Fritz getting laid at the funeral was explained well when he said he was escaping the reality of the situation.

Everything else he did in the movie spoke of kindness and caring. Overall I like the movie. I liked the two of them together. And Maureen taught her not to try to be perfect.... which is how she ended up with Fritz. Liked the Maureen and Mattie moved in with Sam and Dennis moved on. all in all enjoyable movie for me.

I never saw it as her choosing because as far as gray was concerned there never was a choice, it was always Fritz, she never wanted Dennis in that way. I never saw Fritz as shallow either or someone who sleeps with every woman he crosses paths with honestly throughout the entire movie he slept with a total of two women the caterer and gray that hardly makes him a man-whore.
The only reason she told Dennis what she and Fritz had was less than nothing was because A. She was trying to spare his feelings because she knew how Dennis felt about her and she was trying not to hurt him and B. She most likely felt that moving on so quick from Grady was not a good look and was a bit self conscious about the whole situation especially when the person she fell for was one of Gradys best friends.

I don't think Fritz was superficial or shallow. After all he chose to stay there in Colorado and spend time with them doing simple things. He said he found the movie business superficial. Clearly there was more there than meets the eye. Except for the hookup at the funeral (and you could see he regretted that immediately), I can't think of what was so bad about him. He was loyal to his friend but also wanted to protect Gray from being hurt.

I barely noticed Dennis throughout the movie until he said he was in love with her. It would have been a huge let down if suddenly she settled with him because he was just available and worshipped her. Instead she took the chance instead of playing it safe.

DID you watch the movie? She did not end up with Fritz or chose him for anything except a good lay.

She was hitting him for lying and protecting the dead fiance and the affair. When Fritz pinned her to the wall the bondage turned her on --- she was embarrassed to be with him but needed the intimacy she would have tossed him sooner or later

"less than nothing"

Lol did YOU watch the movie? Except for lying out of loyalty to his friend (and trying to protect Gray from being hurt) Fritz was completely awesome. Funny, sensitive, sweet. I've seen the movie multiple times and I'm telling you it would have been inconceivable for her not to go for him. If you really think it's just for sex then that's because you don't know anything about women. 

try reading my comment again Gray did not choose Fritz -- she used Fritz

Yeah well the heart wants what the heart wants and I also think Dennis was a very sweet guy as well but I also think she fell in love w/Fritz and he fell in love w/her. There was something about Gray that Fritz loved, I think it was her honesty, loyalty to her friends, she was forgiving for what her fiancée did to her, Gray even accepted the "other woman" and her son into her home, so many things Fritz really fell hard for her. At the funeral after that "quickie" w/the catering girl you could tell he was getting sick of his "lonely life", he stood their for a few minutes staring at himself in the bathroom mirror like he didn't like himself anymore. He was tired of the "one night stands" and was ready for something solid, and of course he and Gray just really clicked. I also think besides falling in love w/Fritz, it was time for Gray to move on w/her life and that's exactly what she did. I loved Dennis but I would've chose Fritz as well.
