Honestly, this short is really lame

I find it hard to put into words what is wrong with this after I just re-watched it. Let me try:

1. The concept itself is flawed and boring. A sheep gets shaved and now it feels ashamed of itself? HOW INTERESTING, LET'S PUT IT INTO PRODUCTION!
2. The morality of the story ends up being too much for the actual short. The reason that "For the Birds" and "Jerry's Game" are good shorts is because they're supposed to be funny and cute, not cute and existential.
3. The song itself is cheesy and annoying, even for bluegrass. Bud's voice is annoying and grating, the rhyming verse is horrible at best, and the term "Bound" doesn't really lend itself too nicely on the ears when you repeat it over and over again. The constant stopping and starting of the words and music just frustrate me.
4. Whoever read way into this and thought it had something to do with being gay: Stop thinking that everything has to do with being gay. You're not special, you're probably gay (not that there's anything wrong with that), and you need to shut the hell up. People like you make me hate this short.

You clearly must have a grudge against Bud Luckey and Disney itself for you not to find this short adorable. It is one of my favorite shorts!

Given the limitless resources of Pixar, I was seriously unimpressed with this short and greatly offended it was nominated for an academy award. If this film had been made by teens with a Pentium III computer in a basement somewhere with blood, sweat and tears, I'd be much more impressed and accepting of it. I have to agree with cambutler. It's hardly an engaging story (well, maybe for a 4 year old) but there's nothing original or innovative here. I can only assume Pixar allowed Bud Luckey to do this project like someone throwing a bone to an old tired dog. If this is the film Bud wanted to make ...fine. I won't take that away from him... But it's NOT worthy of an academy award nomination.

Ah, so Pixar not using everything they got and doing a short movie only as good as someone else could do, it's not as good a movie as it could have been and therefore not worthy of the praise?

Sorry but that's not a very good reasoning at all. Even though Pixar made a stickfigure animation drawn entirely with a pencil stuck in their nose, the result could still be engaging and fun.

I even dare to say that their success has practically nothing to do with the technology and tools they have at their disposal and much more to do with interesting characters and settings with fascinating yet simple stories.

I wouldn't be THAT harsh about this short. But, I have to say it's my "least favorite" Pixar short film. For me, a Pixar short is devoid of dialogue, plain and simple. Boundin' having dialogue (albeit sung dialogue) took away from it. I own the video of it (as I do all the Pixar shorts) and I have watched Boundin' with the audio off, and in and of itself it almost works effectively as a story even w/o the singing. (yes, it's a little confusing at times with no dialogue, but had they planned for no dialogue from the start, I think it could have worked.)

But, I have to give it to Pixar; they let one of their senior staff more or less make a short film exactly as he wanted to make it, music, direction and all. Nothing wrong with trying something different!

I just wish I had liked it more. I've seen it dozens of times, and have come to appreciate slightly more than when I saw it, but it just doesn't cut the mustard (by Pixar standards, and in my opinion).

In the end, its an 7/10 for me.

I'm used to no one liking what I like.

Well, "Jack Jack attack" had dialogues, and it was still a good short :)

But I agree with the "least good Pixar short" part. Least funny, in any case.

It's a so-so short. Not the best Pixar has ever done.

I'll give it a 7 out of 10, though.

I love this short. Probably my favourite one (its between this, lifted and Geri's game). Youre looking at it far too objectively. If you look at it as a fun, good-natured short film tailored entirely for kids, then you can understand just how good it is. If you start bringing in existentialism, youre gonna have a tricky time cracking it.

I agree, although I am not a huge fan of Pixar's feature-length films, their shorts are generally very good. However, i wanted to turn this off after a minute or so.

Very irritating, not the most amazing animation and little moral message.

Aaw, well, each to their own, mate. Personally I like bluegrass, heheheh... guilty pleasure? :D

I didn't truly appreciate this short until I was older, 'cause when you get older you realize that life really throws a lot at you! And rebounding/self-confidence is a really really valuable thing to learn. So this short made me feel good, I enjoyed the music and the words and the characters, and and that's why I like it.

Not to mention, nobody messes with the awesome Jackalope. :P

Mother, do you think they'll like this song?

Well i, too, thought it was cute. I saw it for the first time not too long ago. It's the sort of thing I need after a stressful day.

This short is subconsiously building resilience in our young kids of today. If you haven't noticed, kids are becoming more and more negative; what with the impact of social media and the immediacy of life and information.
This clip allows a child to understand that not every little 'bad' thing in life is worth becoming almost suicidal over - we need to start implementing these ideals from an early age - early intervention is key!!!
I say congatulations to the Pixar team for make a short film that helps rather than simply entertains our kids...
By the way, people like you who has hatred for something that is absolutely only meant for good, makes ME sick...

OP came out from under his rock to post this and never posted ever again anywhere. Wow. That's a lot of hate for a silly fun little short. Got fired from Pixar, maybe?
