If you like 'Voyage to the Planets' you should check out 'Planetes'. Almost a prequel to 'Voyage to the Planets' (but it's a Japanese anime production), the show follows the crew of a space garbage clean-up crew. In the later episodes they are involved in the preparation of a ship much like 'Pegasus' as it is made ready for a trip to Jupiter. As with 'Voyage to the Planets' almost all the science is realistic and it has the same 'true-to-life' feel as the BBC miniseries.

The show starts as something of a sit-com, but as the show progresses things get darker and deeper and it becomes a drama - and it's anime, but trust me, it's more than worth it to see another TV show that handles physics properly.

You lost me at anime, buddy. Thanks, though.

For years I too thought anime was just giant robots, ninjas, cute furry creatures that fight for no reason, and magical girls. I was wrong. If you haven't seen anything by Makoto Shinkai (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojQNVp922LY), Hayao Miyazaki or Satoshi Kon; or if your knowledge of anime only goes as far as Dragonball Z or Pokemon, you don't know what you're missing. There are anime films and series out there that delve deeper into the human psyche than most serious dramas or movies. Planetes is serious sci-fi along the lines of 2001: A Space Odyssey. If you were to dismiss anime out of hand I think you'd be making a huge mistake.

Be aware - this is not some 14 year-old speaking. I'm 46 years old, married with a kid. I like movies like The Godfather, Unforgiven and Casablanca, and I read books with 1000 pages and no illustrations - a lot. If you think I'm the run-of-the-mill anime fan you'd be wrong.
