Probably Reading into Things a Little Too Much...

... but does anyone else think that Trap Door works as a reference Freud's structural model of the psyche, i.e. the id (The Trap Door), the Ego (Berk) and the Superego (The Thing Upstairs). Just seemed stupidly apparent on re-watching as an adult a few days ago...

Freud? Id? Ego's and Superoegos?

Dude, you're reading too much into it. It was simply plasticine models, in stop motion animation, designed, purely to entertain children, with weird special effects and strange looking creatures causing havoc for some poor, overworked blue blob.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Haha, I suppose if you take this particular psyche as belonging to the house as a whole then that comparison actually quite work. It's not a bad way of explaining the concepts, especially the relationships between the Id and Ego, and the Superego and Ego. Well spotted!
