Why isn't this popular?

You would think that this show would be a pretty popular anime series since;

- It was done by the creator of Escaflowne
- It was shown on MTV2
- There's a manga to the series
- The box set of the first 3 DVDs only sold for $20

This show is waaaaaay underrated. This is one of best anime's I've seen in a long time, until it got towards the ending...then it kinda got crappy. But besides that, Heat Guy J is a great series. It has awesome characters, and a gripping storyline. When I mention this series to people they always say they have never heard of it. I can count the number of people I know on one hand who have seen this show. And half of them wouldn't have even known the show existed if I didn't force feed it to them. So sad...so sad.

But on the up side of this, HGJ is kinda like on the down-low of anime. Which is kinda a good thing. It doesn't make the super overrated to the point where people just watch it because everyone else is. I don't wouldn't HGJ to be super popular like Inuyasha, but to just be recognized for the good quality show that it is.

Anyway, what's your favorite character(s)? Mine are Claire, Boma, and Giobanni <3

I second everything you said there pal :)

Got that right. I'm glad it's not too popular, but sad at the same time. It should be recognized!

Your all right! This show is so danm good and gets no attention, It should air on Adult swim

I'd would be great if more people liked this show, I just fear the annoying fans it may spawn! Also, I don't think MTV2 even aired the whole series. I could be wrong though.

reply

no they didn't they only aired it to like episode 12, and most of the time they showed repeats

I bought the entire box set at Anime Central 2007 for $39.95. The reason I heard about the series was that it had very high marks on an anime rating site that compiles anime reviews from various sources (similar to Rotten Tomatoes, but for anime) (link: http://www.animecritic.com/_metareview/index-letter.php?type=rating ). I don't remember how I stumbled upon this site, but it was pretty recent.

Anyways, I had a list of anime that I typed out from the site that had a score of 80 or more that I hadn't seen yet and was interested in purchasing. I had 29 series on the list, and I asked a few dozen people around the convention to recommend any series (and TV shows) that were on the list. Berserk, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Perfect Blue, and Serial Experiments Lain received the most recommendations (around 10 each). On the other hand, Heat Guy J received zero.

When I went to the Dealer's Room, all of the series that people had recommended were either not there, or too expensive for me, with the exception of Serial Experiments Lain (which I bought for $35 (for the whole series on Saturday)). I noticed Heat Guy J for $39.95 at the same store, but I didn't think of buying it, mainly because I still had a few stores in the dealer room to search when it suddenly closed at 6:00 PM. I came back on the next day (which was the last day of the convention). I searched through those last few stores, and they didn't have anything I wanted at the price I wanted. I decided that I wanted to spend a bit more money on anime, so I went back to that other store and bought Heat Guy J. It was still $39.95, and they were displaying two box sets (with each of the box sets being the two collector's sets shrinkwrapped together). I quickly decided to buy the series.

I really hope I enjoy the series. Granted, I have plenty more series that I own that I still need to watch, but I will probably get through plenty of episodes of anime this summer - last summer, I watched at least 100 episodes. Hopefully, this will be an underrated gem that I will end up sharing at the anime club when I come back to college.

It was an awesome series. I never heard of it until I browse through a DVD shop one time. Didn't see the entire anime till most recently.

Not that I'm complaining that it's under rated in the Anime society, but I think it's a must see for those who like to see another anime that has a similar Cowboy Bebop feel to it(least that's according to the reviews on the anime).

If it were as big as Cowboy Bebop then we'd be seeing collectible Heat Guy Action figures in various anime stores(I wouldn't mind owning something like that). Then again there are other anime series like this one that are good but also under rated.
