'I'll never fly this airline again!'

How many times was THAT said?

My favorite one was the woman who was livid over a lost suitcase. The poor guy at the baggage claim was calling around to other airports, describing the bag as she described to him. Meanwhile, the bag, which was a different color than what she told the guy, was going around and around the carousel. Finally, another employee brought the bag in as "unclaimed". The woman realized that it was her bag and had to apologize to the guy she had been yelling at.

The funniest part was that the shows producers and camera crew knew that the bag was there. They even filmed it on the carousel. So, instead of pointing it out to resolve the issue quickly, they let the woman go on and on with her complaining until the truth was discovered and she had to eat her words.

"I'll never fly this airline again!" It was always someone drunk or stupid or both. I can't believe how many people don't check the rules before bringing pets or oxygen tanks or think that the airline will take their word that a toddler is under 2 years old and can fly for free. Who packs important medication in the check-in luggage?

The incident that seemed to come up the most was the passenger who was too drunk to fly. I wish more airlines were as careful about that as SouthWest. A few years ago, I was flying from Hawaii to Vegas with a stopover in San Francisco. This guy boarded in SF and must have already been drunk because it didn't take him long to start clapping and "whoo-hooing". His seatmates and the flight attendent asked him be quiet and he just got louder and more belligerent. The next thing that happened was his seatmates were moved elsewhere on the plane and a male flight attendent sat next to him. The police had been called and would meet him when we landed in Vegas. I am only 4'11" tall and this guy had the seat directly behind me so I was a little scared for a while. If he had gotten violent at that point, I would have been the first thing in range. At the very least, he might have puked on my head. He settled down and started apologizing once he realized that the police were waiting for him but, once they are called, the cops had to detain him.

And of course once the bag is lost, it gets much more expensive.

I also love the rocket scientists that pack their medication on the plane then whine that they don't have it when there is a delay. DUH!!! Keep it with you and you will always have it handy. With the way they go through luggage these days, you would be luck to have any meds left after checking them.

That situation actually came up, too. The baggage handlers had to practically empty the whole cargo hold to find the suitcase with the medicine in it.

I never pack prescriptions in my check-in luggage. Spare contact lenes and glasses, medications, jewelry and cell phone charger are always in my carry-on.
