Because majority of gamers rather play serious games like... Army of Two, or Gears of War. /hatred and irony
Also because it wasn't PR'd right.

Seeing as how it received massive critical acclaim it can't be blamed on the game being negative in any way. Honestly, some games just get overlooked especially when they don't receive a lot of pr or buzz. I didn't hear about it until X-Play reviewed it and then I hadn't heard a single thing until about a decade later. It's like Beyond Good & Evil and Eternal Darkness - a great game that just didn't get the attention it deserved at the time.
