Of all the leads only only Nathan Lane actually fit

Yes, MB danced a bit but certainly not like a professional, more like a college kid who had 3 months worth of dancing lessons. And his repeated whiny voice just made mw want to find a big rock to hit him wife.
Uma Thurman plays this like 'I'm a big star, look at me, I'm acting.'
Yes, I know this is a film of a Broadway Show and shows are very broad to reach the rear seats but come on. Saying this a film of a Broadway musical is not a reason just an excuse for it be overblown, awkward and without anything positive to say.
I enjoyed the Grandmas on walkers number, shut my eyes during the slap-dance thing with Will Ferrel and enjoyed John Barrowman's singing.
It could have been good and should have been better.

I have to agree. I've just seen it for the first time, and while I did enjoy the chemistry between Lane and Broderick, and was surprised by Broderick's musicality, it didn't work nearly so well as the original did. (Maybe because it was a whole hour longer?)

Nathan Lane was pretty amazing, as I think he always is, but he didn't seem old enough for the role, compared to Mostel, nor beaten-down and ethically-sleazy enough.

I didn't like Broderick's attempt at Leo's character -- he actively creeped me out, whereas I found Wilder endearing.

I didn't find Will Ferrell or Uma Thurman remotely funny.

And I think a big problem with the remake film is the staid direction, which seems to hedge its bets by swinging back and forth between a static camera that was almost a filmed stage performance, and a few timid tracking shots when it needed to "open out" the action.

Really didn't grab me, though I thought some of Mel's new musical numbers were clever, especially when they came back in reprise to counterpoint other numbers.

I thoroughly agree with your last sentence, too.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

That is bull. There is no other Carmen Ghia except Roger Bart. He IS Carmen Ghia. He was totally got. So was Matthew Broderick and Gary Beach.
