To the OP, "almost" doesn't count. Try harder to succeed.

reply

Go watch any of the Twilight movies, then come back and tell us what you think about this movie.

reply

Am I the only one who agrees with the OP? This movie has nothing on the original.

reply

I agree with the op, it's really one of the worst movies i've seen, up there with manos hands of fate, I felt ill after watching this.

reply

It's not as good as the original but it certainly isn't one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

If you almost killed yourself because of a movie, I think you have bigger problems to worry about.

I saw this show on Broadway countless time because I loved it. Nathan and Mathew were Broadway gold during their run. The movie captured much of the original charm and hilarity of the stage show but I must admit....the stage show is better.

Uma Thurman pales in comparison to the original Broadway actress who played Ula. Will Ferrel is a well known comedian and actor but he doesn't hold a candle to the Broadway actor who played Franz Leibkind. Unfortunately, the Broadway actors are not well known to the movie going audience so they were replaced with well known actors. Bad mistake. So glad Gary Beach as the director and Roger Bart maintained their original roles from the Broadway show.

"Springtime for Hitler" was cut up and poorly edited to leave out some of the production number. I know the score and the number so well, I was able to spot these omissions very easily.

I still enjoyed the movie as Nathan and Mathew are hilarious together.

Of course the stage show version of this is better. That would be because this version of THE PRODUCERS is musical THEATRE. The original fllm version with Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel works better mainly because it was made to be a film, not a reproduction of a stage production. Although Wilder and Mostel certainly made their contribution.

Film is different than theatre. What works on stage does not work on film. Your own reaction proves that, luvthepros.

And by the way, I consider this a failure as a film. But I'm pretty sure I could list a thousand movies out there that are worse.

The original which no doubt you worship is overrated and outdated. This is better.

I loved this movie, even more on a 2nd watch. It does everything it wants to do so well.
It is so funny, the acting is brilliant, singing on point, sets and costumes are marvellous.
What's not to like.

It's not going to be everybody's cup of tea, and maybe if you are a fan of the broadway or original movie, you might have a another point of view as you compare it to those. But I haven't and I love this movie for what it is - it's a hilariously entertaining musical movie.
