Eurico Bernardes Catatau

In the DVD there is a short documentary (actually longer than the movie itself) called "O Homem que gostava de Zombies" (the man who liked zombies), which is tells the story of the life of the man who inspired the director to make the movie.

The man who liked Zombies was Eurico Bernardes Catatau, and his innovative and bold horror movies made him an outcast in portuguese cinema. He also made erotic movies (Monster from the Sexual Lagoon), wrote the script (which would later give the idea for ISYIMD) "A Aldeia dos Mortos Vivos" (the village of the living-dead) which was sold to the (supposedly) illegitemate son of Dino de Laurentiis, Jack de Laurentiis.

Later in life he accidently killed his girlfriend while making another horror movie, spent 10 years in jail, and now works in an expressway toll-booth.

Hard to believe??? That's exactly what i think!!!!!!!

The documentary is quite credible at first, but then it just gets odd... things just don't add up, they are too bizarre!!!

I'm convinced that Filipe Melo, the director, invented this character to be his inspirer and is making the world believe he is real. He mentions him in talk-shows and festivals as if he were real.

But i just don't think so... even though i can't find definite proof!!!

But don't get me wrong! If it turns out to be true that it is all just a scam, a fraud, i'll like the director even more, for doing this! It's just absolute genius!!!

Kind of like the "This is a true story...." at the beginning of Fargo!!!

Anyone who has seen the documentary, please post your opinion!!!

Hello,

This movie, in Portugal, caused quite a stir because it was the first of it's kind here. The DVD is out and it's quite good

As for Mr. Catatau I saw a movie made by him in 1994 in Oporto Filme Festival (Fantasporto) called "Chupa-me o Sangue". It was actually the first time I went to Fantasporto and the movie was really weird. Lot's of sex and violence and not much acting. I didn't make too much of it at the time.

But it was from that gentelman alright. Later he turned upin the Festival, just visiting. People said it was him but I couldn't care less at the time so I never got close enough to mee him.

This year he showed up again during the Award Ceremony and this time I tried to talk to him. But he guy just smilled and said nothing. Real strange guy.

So if you ask me, yeah he's for real. But a little strange too :)

It's a hoax, Catatau isnt real. The guy in the documentary is actually Filipe Melo's older brother.
But it's a lot of fun watching the documentary and that ficticious character. The narration from Euládio Clímaco (Jogos Sem Fronteiras) was just the "cherry at the top of the cake"

Same here! I want to believe it's true, because how they did it. But if it is an hoax, it's done brilliantly. I think this short can be glimpse of things that portuguese movie makers can deliever.
