'El Crimen Perfecto' is a Wickedly Funny Black Comedy!

"THE PERFECT CRIME"(2004)
("El Crimen Perfecto," in Spanish with English subtitles)

Rafael (Guillermo Toledo), a young, dashing and urbane manager of the women's section in a downtown Spanish department store is on top of the world. He is single, well paid, and he staffs his department with comely salesgirls who are more than happy to work for him after hours as well.

Suddenly the world turns upside down when he loses his managerial position to a rival who promptly proceeds to fire him. A later altercation between the two men in a dressing room results in the accidental death of the rival. Staying late at the store that night to dispose of the body, he is shocked when it suddenly disappears.

His confusion at the disappearance of the corpse turns into a nightmare when it turns out that there was a witness to the accidental murder. Lourdes (Mónica Cervera), a plain, mean-spirited fellow employee contemptuous of her far more beautiful rivals in his department, steps forward to help him to dispose of the body and to control his life forever after by blackmail.

In one short week Rafael's life turns from heavenly into a living hell. Grade: A-, Recommended? Yes, this is one wickedly funny black comedy par excellence!

Bonk. That about says it all. I wouldn't rush to see a remake, however. Better off sticking with the original. I can't see half those scenes making it through a studio meat-grinder.

Great review. Let's see... How many spoilers did you include without warning?

1) He loses the managerial position. That's a surprise twist at that point in the movie.

2) His rival fires him. That's a surprise twist at that point in the movie.

3) The rival dies in the dressing room fight. That's a surprise twist at that point in the movie.

4) The body disappears. That's a surprise twist at that point in the movie.

5) Lourdes was the witness. That's a surprise twist at that point in the movie.

6) Lourdes controls his life through blackmail. That's an unexpected development from her original characterization.

Congratulations. It's not often we see so many plot points given away in so short a space. Why not just sum up the big store scene at the end and the final resolution while you're at it? That way nobody needs to waste the 105 minutes at all.

This isn't movie critiquing. It's simply plot recitation and it is lazy and does a disservice to the potential audience.
