US Release
What happened to the US release? It was scheduled for December 22 but I couldn't find showings in any major US market, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, or DC. Has it been delayed?

shareI'm not 100% sure but the third book translated in to English, 'The Sun Over Breda' was originally supposed to be released in the US on Dec.28th.I pre-ordered it from Amazon.com and they sent me an e-mail telling me that the new release would be in early April.I was so disappointed!
shareI have the same question. Somebody knows why the release of Alatriste (I'm talking about the movie, not the books) was postponed. It was going to be release on Dec 22nd. I would appreciate if somebody answer to this question. I am being navigating through internet and I couldn't find any news.

I thought it was being released on DVD in Europe in January '07. Is there anyway to get the European version (with English subtitles)? I have also been scouring the internet looking for updates to no avail.
shareThe dvd is out for rent only, in Spain only, since January 3rd. It does have English subtitles. In February (some say 7th, some say 1st) the film will be for sale in two different sets, 1-disc and 2-disc, the latter with more extras and deleted scenes (not edited into the film).
The rental version out now is a DVD 9. I don't know whether those play in American machines. But right now the only way of getting one would be to travel to Spain just to rent it (you can't even buy it), or have someone rent one, copy it and send it to you.
(Which I'm not advocating) ;)
Jusr placed an order for the 2 disc DVD set from a dvd website in Spain. Release date is 2/7/07. It's region 2 and PAL format and won't play on American players unless you have a region free, PAL to NTSC converter built in.
According to website: DTS 5.1 Spanish, 5.1 Spanish. 16x9, 1.85 aspect ratio.
English, French and Spanish subtitles.
National geographic commentary by director
Phot gallery, story boards, film credits
Making of, cast, deleted scenes, teaser, trailer, music...bla bla bla...the usual fluff.
Anyway, don't know if I'm allowed to post the link dvd website for you all. If so, let me know and I'll post an update reply.

Hi,
The price in Euros is 21.54 -- 20.03 for preorder to USA without that VAT. Shipping to the USA is 17.10 Euros. Expensive, almost as much as the DVD.
Go to www.dvdgo.com and type ALATRISTE in search engine. You'll find both editions.
Let me clarify the NG and the director. It reads: National Geographic, commentary by director. I now realize it is two different categories. I read it wrong. Thanks for correcting me.

Hi,
Can't speak for the others on shipping. It may include both DVD and shipping. If not, they should buy elsewhere.
I know for sure that it's 17 because I placed the order and the shipping cost breakdown verifies it on their billing.
I'll let you know about the quality and the content. It generally takes 3 to 4 days for it to arrive in California. So somewhere around Feburary 11th it should arrive in my hot little hands.
Will keep you posted
Andrew :)

Yeah, why not? My bedroom is converted to a movie theater. 6.1 DTS sound and a 42' high def monitor! Can watch ALATRISTE upconverted to 1080p high def image. Should look and sound great.
How many with popcorn? LOL
Andrew :)

Thank you all for the update! If I leave my home now on the east coast and drive, I can be at your house by the time the DVD arrives! It seems absurd that we have to jump through hoops to get this movie. With Fox behind the picture I really don't understand why it hasn't been released in the USA.
shareHello everyone! I am from Spain and I went to see the movie last year. I hope you guys like it. although is not thay good. About the DVD players, here in Spain, most of them are free region and you can get them by just 40 Euros. I have many friends from the US who have bought them here and took them to the States, he he!
I wish I could help you all with anything! I am somehow involved with the movie...Anyway, I will try to find out why hasnt it make it to the US yet.
I was in Mexico this past December and it hadn't even come out there, even though it was suppose to come out Nov. 3rd! Alatriste Fans we need to do something.
