Alatriste shown at CineVegas

Viggo Mortensen was honored at the CineVegas film festival with one of their Half-Life achievement awards, supposed to celebrate the half-way mark of the recipient's career. Each such honoree gets to choose which of his films will be shown at the festival, and Viggo not only chose Alatriste, but he made a special trip to Spain to pick up a print of the film to be shown at the festival. He arrived on Wednesday June 18 with the print. The screening was on Friday, June 19.

Viggo has long been promoting this film, in spite of the lousy distribution efforts. This is a film that cries out to be seen on the big screen. So much can be missed on a TV or laptop.

Viggo was interviewed about his career and political leanings, and then introduced the film. He said he is still working with the director (Tano) to get a good Region 1 version available for release in the U.S. By this I believe he is talking about a DVD with extras, as was released on Region 2. So, there is still hope.
