The original or this one?

Which edition do you like better, the original in 1959 or this "remake"?

We liked the new one better. Though it really didn't seem like a remake, since it was a completely different story. We watched the old one last night, and I fell asleep -- it seemed really long. We watched the new one today, and it was cute. (I really didn't like the witchcraft, amulet, shape-shifting explanation in the original movie, either.) I can't believe this question was just posted a few days ago :)

I totally loved the original, thought it was very entertaining with some great subtext about teen angst.

This one was rather lame, and very forced.

Well this remake was okay, and Tim Allen was the perfect choice for the role as it was, but a magic cursed ring is a better Idea than what they went with here----magic dog germs-a really retarded idea to be honest. Anyway I prefer the original Shaggy Dog over this one by far. The original was tons funnier and actually gave somewhat of a backstory as to WHY the kid turned into a dog whereas this new remake didn't give any reason as to why the dog bite had thie effect it did on the guy,why the dog lived so long, or anything else that needed to be explained.

Also this seemed more like a liberal remake of the Shaggy D.A.(the Shaggy Dog sequel)except Shaggy D.A. was somewhat better. Also this movie seemed to be made not really for entertainment purposes but to instead try and shove that liberal animal activist nazi agenda down everyone's throats. The whole "animal rights" bit was un-needed and kinda hurt the film either further--I mean really, we don't need a "animal rights" bit of propanganda to further turn our kids into anti-freedom liberal Nazis we already have that happening and for Disney to do it is insane and wrong.

I consider all the remakes to be very nice.
The original was really good and entertaining.
So was the one in 1994.
My mom watched the 2006 remake with Tim allen with me on Wednesday.
She loved it.
She is not as much into movies as i am, but she loved this.

I think they are all good.
Just the remake with Tim Allen is a different plot so i wouldn't exactly call it a remake.
I loved them all.
I cannot choose which is best.
Its tough, these are the best 2 remakes of a movie i have ever seen.

Original, definitely. I'm a screenwriter who's actually going to try to make an ACTUAL remake to the Shaggy Dog. May be PG-13 this time around though and may be known as something different (Dr. Dolittle remake (which I really enjoyed) was PG-13 from the original's PG). I always saw the film as a metaphor for puberty and teenage angst - thus the IMPORTANCE of this happening to a teenage guy.

The original, definitely. The original is a classic, this is a sorry excuse for a Disney movie.

Both were 10s for me. I liked the sequel to the original, too, but not quite as well--I gave that an 8.
