A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, which came out a year after Coach Carter, gives an even clearer picture of Tatum's talent. I highly recommend this film to anyone interested in the development of Channing Tatum's capabilities as an actor and the growth of his star power. He reminded me of a young, Mean Streets-era De Niro in the Dito Montiel film. (Tatum and Montiel must have gotten along very well in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, as they teamed up for two other films, Fighting and The Son of No One, but Tatum's performance in the first one is the best of the three.)
