Jodi + Steven/Lynn + Brad

Gosh, I hope I am on the right board.

I can't tell you what season this is from but it involves Mulit-millionaire heiress, Jodi from Manhattan & her husband Steven. Woodcutter Brad and his wife Lynn, from New Jersey. Ultimately, when everything was said and done, Jodi turns out to be not so bad and she and Brad actually learned, a lot. Steven, Jodi's husband turned out to be the biggest ass east of the Mississippi; he just did NOT GET IT.

What, just for once in your life can't you be serious?

I saw this episode today it was at least nice to see them (Jodi and Steven) actually spending time with their kids at the end. I always wonder why people have kids if they are just going to have the nanny(s) raise them. Jodi was gone for what 2 weeks but before this experince she saw her kids for what 1 to 2 hours a day? I thought it was sad how the father would rather workout then to read to his little girl. That he felt offended that she was going to fix them soup and PBJ's

I agree it was nice that Brad and Jodi were eventually able to see eye to eye of sorts and become friends. Jodi even enjoyed baking cookies with the girls and their friends.

This episode was the second episode of season one it first aired back in late September 2004 so nearly 5 years ago. I hope that they have continued to remember the things they learned and that they are still spending time with their children. If they want to eat out thats fine but find a family appropriate restaurant, sometimes.

Jodi's husband was the definition of douche bag. His main problem was the he thought he was just hysterical when he wasn't. Just goes to show that money can't buy you class...or looks, apparently.

I, too, was kinda impressed with how Jodi turned it around, as well as how sweet Brad was about his wife. Naturally, Lynn's work ethic was awe-inspiring. I watched this show recently, so it was years after it originally aired, which means it was filmed a few years before the housing/banking crisis turned into this recession. I wondered to myself if the wealthy New Yorkers were effected by this. If the source of their wealth was tied to that, I can't imagine them vending for themselves without that trust fund. Have you ever seen Grey Gardens, the profile of Jackie Kennedy's cousin who were raised in that type of aristocracy? When they lost their riches, they had absolutely no ability to care for themselves. They were initially left with enough money to care to have a home, etc., but it took so much money for them to function. They didn't know how to clean or cook, to perform simple tasks. I'm sure this WifeSwap couple wasn't effected, or at least that much, but if they were for some reason, I couldn't help but think they might be in the same boat as Grey Gardens, while Brad and Lynn would be just fine.
Also, Steven was an ass. I've been to New York and it is one of my favorite cities, but I also felt like it was rather condescending the way he just started questioning Lynn in front of his friends about how much more she would rather live his life than her own. Oh, and the comment he made about how wonderful it is to have a paid employee there with open arms when your kids is crying. WOW! I have two small children myself and there are MANY chores I would let someone else do, such as laundry. LOL. But, it doesn't matter how much money I have, when my kids need comforting, my husband or I want to be the source of their reassurance, not some random employee who most assuredly won't be in their employ for the child's entire childhood.

As a follow-up to the previous post, if Steven and his wife were lambasted by the failing economy, ah, karma's a b*tch! I liked Jodi by the end of the ep., but Steven was awful! He was so condescending, and actually mean to the other mom. what an ass.

shondy,
big and little edie weren't descended from the aristocracy, they were descendants of a cabinet maker in france who had nothing when he came to this country.
big edie's father was a stock broker. her husband was a lawyer who lost everything after the stock market crash. there were never any "riches", they were comfortable until 1935.
they weren't left with any money as big edie had spent everything her husband made before he lost the rest.

No worries. After the episodes, the two families were on Oprah and Steven issued an apology and offered to do Lynn's woodchopping chores for a week or something like that. So, he did realize his mistakes and what an *beep* he had been after watching the show himself.
