Is apparently the end of the world.

I watched an episode this monday on Lifetime and They showed this family who were survivalists who taught their kids daily on how to survive if the end of the world came. Apparently they believe that the world will end on Dec 21, 2012, so they have decided to buy things on credit where you don't have to pay until 2013, since the world is going to end anyway.

What is the point of any of the survival tips and gear if the world will end?

I spent the entire hour wetting my pants I was laughing so hard!

I saw that one too.

I never sought out the program but one day when I was expecting the usual "Old Christine" reruns on Lifetime in the daytime they ran several of these shows instead ( as they also did another day, with their "Super Nanny" series.)

Right now tonight, there's another little marathon of them on Lifetime too.

Well, discipline without freedom is tyranny and freedom without discipline is chaos, and this program routinely showcases each, taking the adult female from each group, casting her into the other for two weeks, with predictable hostility quickly fostered in each camp. If you've seen three or four of them, you've seen them all.

But the show has been instructive for me in an unintended way, much the same as a visit to the PeopleOfWalmart website: if those shameless shoppers are a true representation of our citizenry today, and if "Wife Swap" can be foisted on the same public and gallingly labeled entertainment, then I'm less baffled how a Santorum, a Bachmann or a Palin can actually get traction. We may as well give the keys to one of them, and let him or her drive us the rest of the short distance to Hell, because as a society we're swirling round the bowl as it is.
