Me No Rikey

That was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. I expected an intelligent comment but instead we got " ME NO RIKEY ".

reply

i agree! that, and the basketball player who was born with judaism were probably the funniest parts for me. ohhhhh stereotypes, what would comedy be without them?

reply

i'm not a native english speaker. what does "Me No Rikey" mean?

reply

He was trying to say " I don't like it."

reply

I lol'd for a good 5 minutes at this

He who controls the spice... controls the UNIVERSE!!

reply

In other words, "Me No Likey".

reply

Yes, as in Me No Likey, as in Me No Like, as in I don't like it, in the most stereotypical asian constructed form. By the way, he was the dude from Gung Ho. Haven't seen him in a while. He also "rooks" like the guy from 16 candles (Long Duck Dong) who says "Sexy American Girlfriend".

reply

That's because he is!!

It is funny because the context supposes that the presenters will have eloquent speaking skills, rather than a simple grasp of the language and poor pronunciation. Kinda like assuming that the "Toys-R-Us" store in Harlem will be called "We-Be-Toys"

Basically it is mocking asian accents. In Asain countries they don't have a natural sound for L's. It is replaced by R's. It is also supposed to be that they don't speak english very well. So "I don't like it" Becomes "Me no like" add the accent and you get "Me no rike" or "Me no Rikey"

Explaining "Me No Rikey" People whom have an Asian native tough sometimes have a hard time pronouncing the L sound, and it comes out like a R sound. This is because they have no L sound in there native language. As for the "Me No" part non-native English speakers often get verb tenses and stuff like that incorrect thus Me No Rikey translates into I don't like it.

reply

he was trying to say "me no likey" as in i don't like it, but he said rikey because thats the stereotypes with asian accents, that they pronounce the letter Ls as Rs
