I lived in Spokane, WA were this was filmed. Parts of it were filmed there. The park. Riverfront Park where the ducks are and the carnival with the Ferris Wheel that they go on...and the dome, shown really beautiful all lit up at night - that's where the big World's Fair was held in the 70's sometime, don't remember exactly when. Also another "challenged" love story was filmed in Spokane. That was Johnny Depps "Benny and Joon.
My daughter has high functioning AS and OCD and some Tourette's and she got alot of her "characteristics" from me, genetically...Love is tough for anyone to maintain but two people who have such difficulty expressing it but need it expressed back to them because of stong insecurity, that's even tougher.

I love Spokane. I am going there next week. I'm flying there than driving and I want to look at all the benny and joon locations and try to find Ruthie's building again and the building Sam got a job at in the movie. I also eat at Ferguson's everytime I'm there. I can never eat anywhere else unless the restaurant is closed. I wish more movies get filmed there. It be so cool. I also roam the Peaceful valley neighborhood but am always afraid of asking the neighbors there about the movie and walking up to the house they used in the movie and knocking on the door. It's funny I have already been to some of the Mozart and the Whale locations before they filmed it; Riverpark Square, the streets Donald drives on when he is driving the taxi, Riverfront Park, Gonzaga, and I went to the Devanport after it was filmed but I went there before I even saw the movie. I'm going to try and find some more locations from the movie and some more from Benny and Joon too, Ruthie's building and the place Sam worked at. Of course I know no such video store exists but the building does.

BTW the world's fair was held in '74. I have a book on it. Amazing the White Elephant shop that is on Division still has the merchandise from the World's Fair.

if you want to see another movie filmed in spokane see "Home of the Brave" that just opened in select theatres. I have a friend that works for the production company north by northwest who is responsible for these films being filmed here in spokane.

Also see the Movie Benny & Joon it stars Johnny Depp , Mary Stuart Masterson, Aidrian Quinn. That movie was all filmed in Spokane. And in some ways similar to Mozart and the Whale.

Yeah, Spokane is a nice city. Been there a couple of times on travels through Eastern Washington. I live in Western Washington.

I'm going there next month again. I have to drive through it to get to Montana. I'm stopping in Spokane again for the Benny & Joon locations.

Another movie filmed in Spokane was the 80's wrestling movie with Matthew Modine called "Vision Quest" that had a young Madonna performing at a club, still decked in all her original garb. I'm pretty sure that club scene was filmed somewhere in Spokane. Love visiting the city and will be heading there soon myself for my youngest daughters doctor appt. and to make it fun we'll hit the mall...
