A few comments here and there, such as one from a Variety review of the film, suggest that it was Josh Hartnett who wasn't pleased with the final version.
I believe that the producers took control away from the director, Petter Næss, and changed the feel of the movie in a way that he hadn't intended and Hartnett didn't agree with.

I think you are right about this. In addition, I was told that neither Josh nor the director liked the soundtrack, which was done by an intern rather than a professional known to Naess and Hartnett who offered to do it at a bargain price.
It is too bad because the film never got a chance to reach a significant theater audience. It deserved that even with the faults.
