What do you think?

Hi!

I'm doing a SACE Aus Studies discussion essay on 'Three Dollars' in comparison to the movie 'The Castle'. I was wondering anybody had any opinions on how the Australian family, and Australians in general, are portrayed in this film (very stereotypical, odd, etc). Thank you so much for your time!

Just read your post - I would have to think about it. Has your essay been handed in yet? What did you come up with so far?

I have an eternal hope.

The Castle pretty much nailed it:

Darryl: Steve, could you move the Camerra, I need to get the Torana out so I can get to the commodore.

Steve: I'll have to get the keys to the Cortina if I'm gonna move that Camerra

Darryl: Yeah, watch the boat mate

Steve: Yeah

Absolute classic :)

The ending showed them all cuddled up together ... sure he had only 3 dollars but he had something else .... his dignity, loyalty and love. To me thats worth a lot more than 3 dollars.

It also said a lot about todays society .... in terms of blaming street people for their failures .... ignoring them.... and how big business is winning over the environment. How good people with good values don't finish first in real life however as you should know, possessions and money = less than 3 dollars if no-one cares for you. Plenty of rich people found in their New York apartments dead weeks after they died..... I think if we did a movie about that .... it would be depressing....
