This was a shocker............ ..

The basic idea of the story, as in the movie story, seems to be having the Eddie character as a vehicle for introducing other quirky (but mostly stupid) characters. Essentially this is a road movie as Eddie has no character development and his character in uninteresting and banal. It's only saved by the acting, trying to find something in an empty screenplay.

The women are seen as either neurotic or air heads, while the men are sensitive, competant, crafty and successful.

This movie was a real shocker. I gave it 2. Regularly through it I kept thinking "Get on with this and start to tell us somehting about these people."

There are way too many coincidences too. Hey, if you can't progress a story introduce a coincidence (such as the business card)and presume that the audience is too dumb to notice.

"Tom White" was much better.

Eddie as just a vehicle for introducing other characters?
I don't think you watched the film very closely.

And to say that Eddie has no character development is just a horrible oversight.

Alot of time and trouble is taken to establish Eddie as a good, compassionate man - though not completely so (as evident in the partial infidelity with Kate). He went out of his way frequently to help others, but as the director says, "he could never really help enough".

You might have missed the significance of those quirky characters - I believe you speak mainly of Nick, who started the change we see in Eddie by the end of the film.

What you also missed were the political messages underlying the film.

what political messages? can you explain?

There we were, minding our own business, when kids started killing themselves all over my property.
