Character Confusion

The professor and the son of the old lady looked very similar to me. I actually thought they were the same person at first which was confusing.

I also thought his wife was his daughter. She looks a lot younger than him and he refers to her as kiddo. The only thing that clued me in was the scene with the detectives where they show a picture of their marriage.

Did these things throw anyone else off?
