Comedic scares

I give Lay some leeway since this is his first script and directorial debut, but was he really trying to achieve shocks and scares in the desert scenes in this movie? Did he dig really deep and come up with a fat, blue Hitler that vaguely resembled Oliver Hardy and think, "hey, this is the scariest thing imaginable"?

It almost looked like a campy sendup of really bad fantasy/sci-fi movies, but my guess is that it was just a really bad effort by this first-timer.

There is nothing wrong with sound editing. It is a respected and useful profession. Whatever possessed Lay to try his hand at writing and directing?
