Well we did act and how many 9/11s have we had since? Zero. Perhaps that’s the real reason for the war, just to show that we can destroy any Arab country that we chose. We can’t put it back together again, no one can do that, but we can destroy whoever we chose.
I agree that a lot of people wanted us to go kick some ass and flex our muscles in order to show everyone who's boss, or some macho crap like that. Kinda like dropping those nukes in WWII, just to scare the hell out of everyone.
I think it would have been a lot more intimidating if we'd brought home a live Osama bin Laden, tried him in public court and executed him, but the man continues to live somewhere out there. People forget: HE GOT AWAY WITH IT. Does that infuriate anyone else? His freedom has got to be near the top of the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld list of failures over the past seven years. If we'd devoted the resources we used for this ridiculous war towards his capture, not only would we have sent a serious message to potential terrorists, but the rest of the world would have praised and thanked us.

* There were no 9/11's BEFORE 9/11 either. What were we doing right?
* Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11.
* Saddam did a great job of keeping the Muslim fundamentalist wingnuts under control in Iraq until we idiotically removed him from power.
* If Iraq ever did have WMDs, they got them from us.
* Nobody in the entire world 'hates us for our freedom.' They hate us because we keep messing around in their part of the world and telling them that it's for their own good.
