Something I didn't understand from the movie

When the US tanks entered Baghdad and they were in that town center or whatever with Saddam's statue being taken down, why was that one AJ reporter shocked?

If AJ prides itself on knowing exactly what is going on and reporting the real news and not sugarcoating anything, how did they not know that the US was that close to getting into Baghdad?

She was asking "Where is the Republican Guard?" "Where is the Iraqi Army?"

Shouldn't she have known, if AJ supposedly knows exactly what is going on, that the US had just wiped out everything in their path on their way to Baghdad? Why was she so surprised?

Thanks,

Kevin

I was surprised they were saying that the parade into the square and taking down the saddam statue was all for a show.

I think she was saying that she was shocked to see that it was that easy for another country to come into Bagdad and take down the statue. I believe she was also using the word to describe an overall feeling of seeing what was generaly going on in Iraq, that is was shocking to see war still being used as an answer to problems. I didn’t get the impression that she meant it literally, as in the action of the statue coming down.

Yeah, I think what she meant was that it was shocking how easy the war had been for the coalition. No resistance whatsoever, not even in Bhagdad, which one would assume would have been more strongly defended. Also her point that the Iraqi army and the Republican Guard it out there somewhere was interesting.. tehy did actually seem to disappear into thin air...
Also, the bringing down of the statue was definetly a media stunt... a clever one, as that is the image we all have of the Iraq war. As said, forget all the deaths, all the bad explanations and defence of the war. That is one awesome image!!!

when you typed AJ i for some reason thought you were trying to shorten up "american journalist" not sure if that's irony or coincidence or even anything at all...

My feeling was that she was surprised to not only see how easy it is to perform a publicity stunt (that's what everyone is used to), but also to see how most of the journalists in the same room fell for it immediately.
