Okay, I just saw the first 10 episodes I think it was of the series at a convention. The music is incredible, the animation is simply stunning, and the characters are just so great. I guess I want to know, how many other people have seen it? What do you think of it? And who's your favorite character I guess.

Well Thanks to Tech TV,which has shown the first 13 Episode dubbed in English, the answer is quite a few. They even had a Six and a Half Hour Mararthon on a Sunday Afternoon. Thanks to e-Bay the Import DVD set cotaining all 26 Episodes is readily Available in the USA.All the Anime Publications have praised it highly.Geneon/Pioneer ,who are bringing it out on DVD here are receiving lots of Pre orders for the remainig episodes.Personally I watched it from beginning to end 7 to 8 times.Like the the best Movies or TV it repays your efforts on repeat viewing. I continue to marvel how well this came together in a relatively short time.Gonzo got the best people in anime, outside of Studio Ghibli,to work for them and they delivered the goods. This film is a landmark in TV Anime and will not be quickly surpassed. This wonderful series Start out out strong and keeps topping itself till the very end.Unlike the Matrix Trilogy or the Star Wars Prequels it does not poop out toward the end.LONG LIVE GONZO.

Unlike most of you I unfortunatley did NOT catch this on tech tv. But after reading the reviews on several websites i thought that i should at least check it out. And so i went on to download the first episode from kazaa (they seem to have dozens of episodes), and oh dear god I was hooked!!!! I am currently on my way to figuring out how to purchase the full DVD set!

Btw can anyone tell where i can purchase the set??? (i live in the middle east so ebay or amazon charge VERY VERY high when shipping anything here!!!)...

So can anyone tell any place apart from ebay/amazon?
Any help would be apprieciated.

sadly, all of the dvds haven't yet been released in america (or the dubbed ones anyways, i have no idea about purely subtitled versions)

Long live newsgroups! I was able to fetch this series from Usenet using Newsleecher. I reached episode 22 now, and I love it. While Haibane Renmei is still my favorite anime series, this one is a close runner-up.

I downloaded the fan sub of this and loved it right through to the end. However I have to say although its vissually stunning right through till the end the ending leaves a lot to be desired. It didn't spoil it for me tho.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dio was my favourite character and although his death did seem a bit rushed. I have to say the most heartbraking thing that happened to him was when the guild broke his mind to complete the right ( i forget what its called) which makes him a man in the guild. After that Dio was as good as dead to me.

A serious issue I had with the ending was when they were floating away on exile and you see the hourglass world they've been living on. obviously not everyone is on exile but they are all shown later on right at the end in the fields.

There are so many explanations for the ending floating around it's really up to you to pick which one you want to believe.

reply

Well, in the insert that comes with the last DVD, it says that once Exile is activated, it can go back and forth between Earth (the "blue star" and the place I believe they all ended up living) and Prester, the two small planets in that hourglass-shaped thing. I think that's why they could all be shown together in the end. It did all seem a bit rushed, but I kind of liked that it left some of it for you to figure out.

Dio lives, just thought you should know. He's in the sequel series, and there are many hints of his survival at the end of the original series as well

just watched the whole series with my husband, whose sister has the DVDs. Was totally blown away by it - love the animation style esp.

I was SO sad that Luciola and Dio died... I kind of expected Luciola to, but really believed that Dio would get his old mind back.

Did they ever explain who Alvis actually was??

Just curious - who watched it in the Japanese with subtitles?? I cannot watch dubbed versions because they just sound wrong to me.

I want to watch the whole thing again now :) The only other anime I have seen is all the Studio Ghibli stuff, which I adore. I hope there is more in this style for me to discover.

I saw a few episodes on G4 which prompted me to buy the series.

If I had to name a favorite character it would probably be Tatiana or Sophia.

I just finished watching it and liked it so much I actually submitted a full review for it. The show isn't perfect and there are some gaps in the story but it was still very good. Like someone else said there are tons of explanations floating around that fill in the gaps so pick one you like or make up your own.

*SPOILERS*

It was sad when Luciola and Dio bought it but it was worse when Mullin died in the line of duty. Well it certainly appeared that he died anyway, but then again he mysteriously lives in the end, I didn't get, (or like), the way that was handled.

As far as I know, no they never explained who or what Alvis really was. I also didn't catch it if they explained just who or what the Guild really was or why they were so technologically superior. At one point I think Sofia says that it's because they control the Exile, but in the end they have no more control over it than anyone else and seem to need Alvis to use it as well. There are more questions that weren't really answered or answered very well and I think that's just about the only real negative about this show.

*ENDSPOILERS*

I watched some of it subtitled and some of it in English but I actually thought this show's dub was pretty high quality and settled on that. They had some good talent from the English voice acting world on it.

Steamboy is a pretty recent movie and is very similar in appearance to this, though I didn’t particularly like the movie.

I think Full Metal Alchemist is kind of similar in style to this show. You might like that if you can get past the initial childlike veneer.

My favorite character is easily Mullin, second would be Tatiana.
