The Most Unlikable People Ever

I was hoping for a charming & breezy documentary, much like Wordplay, which presented a group of quirky but brilliant people who may have been socially challenged in some ways, but were easy to root for. This was not the case with Word Wars.
The Scrabble contestants presented here were obnoxious and self-centered at best, and creepy, unemployable dregs of society overall. The documentary was barely watchable.
What struck me most of all was how these pathetic morons took ownership of an erudition that they clearly do not have. Anyone with average intelligence can memorize patterns and words. It was clear that these contestants did not have any kind of range of knowledge beyond Scrabble.

Very similar characters to the ones in "The King of Kong" or "Cinemaniacs"-maniacally focused and not particularly likeable, but interesting.

I agree, all these people in the doc are f'ing weird and as I watched I hoped they would all choke to death on scrabble tiles. The only thing that kept it entertaining was the ghetto black dude who can barely speak proper English, yet he tears it up at scrabble.

I want to put GI Joel out of his misery by ending his pathetic existence.

haha, I love that too.

Obsessed - 8/10 (4.0 WTF?!)
Halloween III: Season of the Witch - 4/10

An equally depressing documentary with equally pathetic people is "Confessions of a Superhero". Check it out if you enjoy watching peoples pathetic lives.

"Erudition": nice word, I had to look it up.

I have been to a few tournaments in differen't things like videogames, karate and monopoly, you always find people like the ones in these movies that have spent so much of there life on one thing. They get little things about them and I'm not sure if it's healthy, but it is fun to be a tournament and have a chance to actually win something.

I couldn't stand Marlon at all. He was the most annoying one. I did like this documentary but I agree the people in this documentary were hard to like and root for at times. I really liked the parts about the people who were playing Scrabble in the park.

I dislike stereotyping and racial profiling. But Marlon came off as someone who if he doesnt succeed at something he plays the race card and blames "The Man" for any and all of his short comings.
