Chris Crocker - the second coming of Jonathan Caouette

Has everyone heard of this youtube/myspace superstar by now?

He really is like the second coming of Jonathan Caouette. It's uncanny.

When I saw it I thought I was having a flash back to watching Tarnation again.

And anyone who has had the unpleasant experience of watching Tarnation once will know just how scarey the thought of having to watch even one minute of it again is.

The horror....the HORROR!!

I have to say, having known Jonathan very well since 1988, that while there are a few similarities, I find almost no real basis for comparison between these two.

They both have cameras. They're both gay. They both like to see themselves on the screen. I think that's where the similarity ends. I can't explain it all here because most of the differences are part of Jonathan's personal life, but rest assured, there is not much to compare here.

Also, why can't this kid Chris have his own coming? Why does he have to be attached to someone he doesn't know because of the very few things they have in common? He's getting a TV show out of this deal. Jonathan was used by his distribution company. See, there's definitely no similarity there.

Can we perhaps think about considering these two artists as independent of one another and COMPLETELY different? I'm sure they would both appreciate it.

...especially now that Chris has come forward about his "love" for his brother. Yecch. In our comparisons and postings, people, can we all please try to either A) give the story time to settle, and/or B) continue to allow individual artists their individuality?

I'm no defender of Chris Crocker but that was not his brother, that was one of his skits and they were both acting.

There is way more to Chris than the persona he is putting on in public.

There are a couple of more, though your point is no less valid.

Both raised by grandparents.

Both from the south.

The similarities on the surface are somewhat striking.

Unlike many, I found the movie to be an amazingly honest look at these peoples lives and how mental illness affects this family; it worked for me on many levels.
