Masterpiece

I've just seen the film and I am speechless.

Its amazing! This affected me more than any other film I have ever seen in my entire life.

Thank you Jonathan for sharing your amazing story. The awards and accolades that you have won (and are yet to win) are all well-deserved.

Also, love to your mother- an inspiring, beautiful person xx

i went to see tarnation last night and liked it. despite the subject matter i felt detached. i didn't shed a tear. (am i growing up?)

i liked the patchwork technique of the various media. i didn't like the digital image manipulation. found that a bit infantile: 'look at me what i can do with this software... look, look, look.'

maybe it is a work of art that took on the shape of a docu.

enfin, let's see what is next with jonathan.

I too found this movie amazing - didn't you just fall in love with Jonathon and his mother? It is so painful to see good people afflicted by so much pain.

You may want to watch The Celebration. If you can get through the first 15 minutes, you will not be dissapointed, and it takes the concept of Tarnation one step further.

I have just seen the film and I loved it.
I have close family members who suffer from paranoia and depression so I know how hard it is. I hope that the film gets a lot of attention and awards because it is worth it. We should have more films like this and not all the crap they show nowadays. Everything was good and compliments for the music choice.
I hope that other films will follow, good luck xx

i loved this film; everything about it, which is unusual, as typically, i criticise films incessantly and without mercy. i thought it was completely unpretentious, and claims that caouette was 'showing off' with editing and effects are misunderstandings - firstly, you can't really show off if all you have is a budget of $220 and a borrowed iMac, and secondly, i believe that the styles and techniques used were an expansion of the film itself, which essentially is experimentation and expression. the brutally honest, almost voyeuristic approach to conveying meaning are inspired.

hey
ive just come back from watchin this film today.
it is one of the most shocking and uncomfortable films ive ever seen, much more scary than any horror film ull ever see.... its life.
the fact that someone could be so honest and open and put thier whole life on film, is a strange concept to me, and i left the cinema with a totally different perspective on life and left me feeling detached, and made my problems seem small but also brought a new light to some problems that i have faced in my life that were simular to his.
i think this is a film that everyone should watch at least once, no matter how bored or mundane some of it can be. or how umcomfortable some of the truths, parts of the story can be. its someones life it should not be disregarded or called crap becuase ud prefer to watch amityville instead.
i am still not sure whether or not i enjoyed this film, but the praise its recieved is well earned.

If you liked this, you must see The Celebration. It's a bit shaky to begin with, but when the story unfolds, it will blow your mind.

I'm truly baffled by your introducing "The Celebration" in relation to "Tarnation." "The Celebration" is a fantastic film, and Paprika Steen's performance is one of the greats. But you'd have to bend your mind into a pretzel to connect these two films.

Maybe you're just recommending "The Celebration" for the hell of it? If so, I'll recommend "The Idiots," another Danish Dogme film, as well.

I have nothing more to add to the OP, but just want to add some support to a great film that's been trashed on its IMDb board.
