So, what happened to Adolph?

I understand that he was up there in age when the movie was filmed, and has probably passed on since then. But the movie never mentioned him again after Jonathan took Renee back to NY. Unless something mentioning the situation was edited out, the movie basically portrayed Jonathan leaving his grandfather in that messy, destroyed house only to move 2000 miles away.
