A horrible horrible waste of time which probally made all involved a considerable amount of money. Very blair which. I belive if you liked blair and this movie you should be put up against a wall and shot. Just my way of taking out the garbage.

A few things on this film: for one, it was reassuring to see something opposite the message of Moore's disrespectful depiction of "OUR" soldiers. Very, very few understand enough about our involvement in Iraq. There were, unfortunately, abundant tactical discrepensies that I feel obliged to address, if only because they've been misrepresented in other threads on this website.
1.) A light, such as the watt-glaring bulb on the camera can be seen for miles in open terrein. It provides an very easy target for even a novice shooter. Also, if "Lars" had been ex-Army, he would have known this. It's a tactical no-no.
2.) The narrow escapes from death that did not involve light discipline were engagements from 25 to 50 meters. Very close for the AK round to find its target. Yet they escaped, until that night fo course.
3.) The colloquial narratives were disrespectful of to those who've endured the reality of Afghanistan or ANY combat zone. Albiet, this isn't a tactical beef, but still a beef.
4.) Someone in another thread mentioned an RPG going off at a comparable proximity to that of the film. If they did they would recall the audible blast. I'm not sure what kind of camera was used, but the impulse from that percussion would have cooked a typical speaker actuator from a $900 camera.
5.) Again with the sound, in caves this time. Sorry, but no. Even if the camera could take it, ears can't. Spec ops designates a specific hearing protection protocol for close contact cave operations. Special plugs.
I'm ignoring the fact that the Afghans continued to film when the cameraman was hit. This was just a movie, afterall.
Other than the technical stuff, the movie represented a third world country )one of the poorest) very well. Being entrenched with the Afghans undoubtedly made a difference. But the strech in reason made an otherwise worthy movie, disrespectful to those who've shared the experiences it claims to represent

with regards to point 1) there is an option on the camera to either turn the record light off or on. You can choose.

I must agree with most of the things you say. If the script and action scenes were better researched and worked out, this movie would be a lot more believable and better accepted. I do however, feel that it had a better and more insightful look at what kind of country we are dealing with here. Although the script wasn't the best, I feel this movie was well worth my money

This is unbelievable. I've seen so many bad comments regarding this film and very few good ones. Many of you, however, are the making the most ridiculous accusations about this film; where it was filmed for instance. I don't care if it was even filmed in the United States! The point of the movie was to send a message to everyone regarding the situation. The point was not to be accurate when it came to where the movie was filmed. And as for the acting.... my question there is...WAS THERE ACTING?! In regards to this film, I don't think acting is all that important. This film was supposed to put a point across about the situation in Afghanstan as well as Pakistan. If you think things are that bad, then you are damn right. This movie did a perfect job of displaying the dangers in my opinion. In terms of a movie, it was terrible, but in terms of depicting reality it was fabulous.

reply

wait, it wasn't filmed in afghanistan? then why does it say it was here on imdb.com, and on numerous other websites as well? just thought i'd throw that out there.

reply

if you think this is a good movie, just think about the tacky, overly dramatic lines ("nothing makes sense any more." heard in every voice-over in just about every war flick i've seen.) not that it doesn't have some technical merit, i did find it somewhat entertaining; good action coverage and believable "drama," to some point. however, this film does show that most americans have an undeservable ego that puts us in harms way, for the sake of attention, not freedom. as far as the "real*bleep* that's going down," try watching "sometimes in april" for real drama.

reply

this movie is horrible, it's clearly untalented queefs that got bored and shot this thing on the fly.

reply

In the interest of full disclosure, truth in advertising and/or any other applicable requirements; A queef cannot get bored, nor can it shoot a movie, on the fly or otherwise!

reply

Why does everybody say "Blair Witch"? This movie is much more like 84Charlie MoPic; which was a very good mockumentary about the Vietnam War.

reply

You're right, autojampilot. This was just like 84charlie mopic. I guess most people here haven't seen it, but they did see witch, which was boring in comparison to both of these other dramas.

I dont think mockumentry is the right term for this or mopic, ...or is it? Both 84 charlie and september were both trying to be as accurate as possible about reality, while witch was just fiction about fiction.

reply

I enjoyed September and the 3 different "realities", and I thought Courtney Cox was very good.

and the way they changed the coloring of each segment was cool.

reply

Wrong movie, dude. That movie with Courteney Cox is called "November".

It's a sad thing that your adventures have ended here

reply

I think that is a bit of an overstatement. You may or may not have liked it or seen it the same way as others saw it, but it was far from a disgrace.

ughhh i hate how people talk about how bad the acting was and stuff. sure, its a MOVIE.... but they arent trying to make it one.its supposed to be a faux-documentary. were u expecting an actor to play some average guy going to afghanistan? that would be stupid. "lars" is supposed to be a normal guy just trying to do what he feels is right and wali is just supposed to be the translator for him. they arent really supposed to be actors. wtf did u guys want... brad effing pit? or douchebag matthew mcconaughey... this was a great film. it looked like an actual documentary. and i had no complaints
