How did the end of this film wrap up this series (story wise)? Who got shot? Who sent her ?

They tried to explain the timeline.
At the end, Peter/Eric shot the puppets. The puppets are dead. No more sequels. PMvsDT doesn't really follow this movie or the others in the series.
Maclain was sent by the 'forgotten ones,' possibly the missing puppets like Torch believe it or not. The ones who have been experimented on with the secret of life, but want to die, yet can't.

Kind of a lame way to end it, if you ask me. Personally, I though part 5 offered a much better finale for the series (at least until "Curse" came along).
Charles Band mentioned in an interview once that he prefers the series being period pieces, which honestly makes me worried. He'll probably continue the AXIS series, which is already kind of tacky and stretching itself thin, but this could also mean no more modern post-LEGACY sequels. He never replies on Facebook when I mention a RETRO 2 or prequel connecting 2 with 4. Or even 5 with 6.
