What was the point of this movie? - Puppet Master: The Legacy (2003) Discussion

I think this was meant to be an attempt to explain all the errors and plot holes that appeared in the first seven films and why there're events that were meant to occur, but were never featured on film.

Also, as you may know the new footage was put together to try and end the PUPPET MASTER series for good. Or at least so Full Moon can start doing PMvsDT, which they couldn't afford so they sold the idea rights.

Since both films did poorly, Charles Band has promised to redeem himself and the series in the future. He's announced another film to begin production in late 2006, and released later on in 2007. Right now it's just "PUPPET MASTER 10", and it's said to take place just after PUPPET MASTER III: TOULON'S REVENGE, and Leech Woman will finally return since her small cameo in RETRO.

so am i right, tunneler and leach women are both killed fro good in pm2, because they dont appear in the films that take place afterwards
like pm9

Many other puppets don't appear in PMvsDT. Let's not assume she's gone for good. Plus, I think 6 happened after 4 and 5, and 2.

I just finished watching this, I should have read up on it first, I just wasted $2.99 to watch this on on demand. like the guy said in one of theese threads if I wanted to go through every movie I would have watched the series, and to end it she just says congrats your the new target for the puppets basiclly. This movie was a dissapointment.

I think that's what they're saying. Though technically it should be 1939.

Torch. Only appeared in 2 and 5.

Toulin commited suicide in 1939 and he's alive in Part 3 set in 1941!, how??

Yip. He died in the original, and it was 1939 when he died. Continuity errors occured in the sequels. 2 said he died in 1941. 3 he's alive in 1941. Part 5 say he died shortly after the war, meaning 1945. The older Toulon footage from RETRO was set in 1944.

Now AXIS OF EVIL, the new film, picks up right after Toulon's suicide, yet I think takes place in 1941.

Are the puppets evil?

No. Only if the master is. They have human souls, but it's possible the magic causes them to lose their free will over time.

Why in Part 1, were the puppets killing people? and at the end, who was that man who came back to life and attacked the two main characters.

Megan's husband, Neil Gallagher found the puppets and the secret. He used it to live forever. Possibly he turned insane because of it, and used the puppets to kill his friends. I think to experiment with the magic.

Yes, I've never seen a sequel quite like this before. Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2 is the only similar one I can think of, but only the first half was recycled footage. The second half was completely new. This one seemed like only 10 minutes maximum was new footage. It would work out more as a "Best of Puppet Master" compilation rather than a sequel. I like all of the other movies so I can't possibly hate this movie because it used footage from all of them, it's just the least satisfying of all the movies so far.

Whatever you do, don't watch SLEEPAWAY CAMP IV: THE SURVIVOR, which is even worse so to speak. Less new footage, and the new footage itself doesn't make much sense, and the archive footage from the earlier films is shown so randomly that the movie as a whole can't even be used as a way to skim through them like a timeline. A somewhat better example is the anime ROBOTECH: LOVE LIVE ALIVE, which takes an entire TV show season and skims through it in 90 minutes.

This one just felt like a wasted opportunity (sad thing is it had the potential to be a good sequel, epic even; With a title like Legacy, it could have made the entire series come full circle, tying up the events from each Puppet Master film (including Curse), and perhaps even bringing some characters back (Alex from part 1, Camille (in mannequin form) from 2, Jane from Curse, the psychic Lauren or perhaps Susie (Rick's girlfriend from 4 and 5), etc), thrown in a menacing villain, and have an all out war over Toulon's legacy and the puppets. Just my idea, but I think it could have been a pretty awesome film had they done this.

Cool idea. I wrote a post-LEGACY fan script in 2008. I tried to connect the series as best I could, but the continuity is such a mess.

I've had other ideas, including one where Rick Myers returns, but I've just never bothered. I tried to give up on fan fiction, with two exceptions being recent fan sequels to TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D.

To explain and prodably fix the timeline and it's errors/problems of the franchise.
