What exactly did he do to make Harvey want to dump him?

The film was not very clear as to why Weinstein decided not to fund his project. Was it because he figured out that he was a jerk and decided to back out? Who paid 300,000 for the script?

Miramax paid for the script. Then put the project in turnaround.

The documentary mentions that Meryl Poster, one of Harvey's right hand people at Miramax didn't like Troy's behavior. There's also speculation that Miramax only bought the script because they didn't want New Line to get ahold of it.

So if Miramax bought the script how does a different company get to make the film? Don't they have sole rights to the story?

Miramax probably optioned the script. It gives Miramax the rights to the movie for a certain amount of time. Within that time, they own the script and no other studio can try to buy it and Troy can't sell it. But if Miramax doesn't do anything with it, Troy gets it back. Many companies will option screenplays rather than buying them, but for Troy to get $300,000 for his first script is pretty incredible.

EDIT- What makes things worse is at the end of the movie, it says Troy spent all his money, LOL. Ouch.

Even though I am not a big fan of The Boondock Saints I think with world wide release and a budget of 15 mil plus advertisement budget, this film undoubtedly would have catapulted him to success. His mistake(I believe) was getting greedy(ego greedy) and wanting to have his band signed on at the same time as the film. He should have concentrated on the film and after it's success THEN try to get the band going.

I knew before the end of the film that he had spent all his money. You could tell by the way he was living. Going to Cannes and staying at fancy Hotels and s%!t. He was living like a big time movie director without a studio to back up his expenses. 300,000 becomes vapors in a year. Not to mention his drinking habit. I would imagine a drink in L.A. back in the late 90's must have ran for about 5 to 6 bucks. Multiply that times that entourage you kept purposely hungover(IMO). That's a lot of cash.

I saw the movie and thought it was quite good. This documentary does explain the delay for Boondock Saints 2. What was even funnier was how the movie made the bulk of its earnings in video, etc - and Troy could not profit from them.

that makes me smile every time I see "boondock saints special edition" and the new Blu-Ray release in the store.

He did something to piss off that woman, at least that was the vibe I got...

Which is hilarious, since Meryl Poster last 7 movies or have been complete bombs in the box office.

You can hate Troy Duffy all you want, at least he speaks his mind (like my self) and I respect that.

Too many idiots in this world hiding their true intent behind nice words.

I also have respect for people that speak their mind, like Winston Churchill or Richard Dawkins for example. I don't have respect for people that randomly denigrate others for no reason other than their own insecurity. Calling Kenneth Branagh a *beep* for what, because he has an answering machine? Ethan Hawke 'talentless'? Training Day and Gattaca pretty much p1ss all over anything Duffy will ever do. I admit that Boondock Saints was a good movie, and maybe even great for a first-timer, but he hasn't achieved 10% of what the people he has criticized have (and that includes Harvey, even if he is a prize tool).

Hollywood works on the principle that if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all, or just make something up that sounds good. . .

Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

Yeah, you speak you're mind on IMDB, good for you lol. It's funny that you don't know the difference between "speaking your mind" and being an a$$hole.

It's been agreed the whole world stinks, so no one's taking showers anymore.
