What a dick move:

Telling his band mates they didn't deserve the money. They're part of the f ucking band you moron, just because they didn't seal the record deal themselves "single-handedly", and they aren't sucking your f ucking cock for doing so, doesn't mean they aren't playing the music that GOT YOU THE DAMNED CONTRACT. Troy's assholishness is why that band failed. Their music wasn't all that bad, and he had the right idea leading them and being blunt, but being and AS SHOLE while being blunt is what ruined The Brood.

Overnight was ok. Wish it would have explained a bit more instead of just showing clips they thought they explained. The message didn't get across as well as it could of.

This was hardly a documentary. The whole thing looked and felt scripted. Like rappers polishing their own apples. Lame.

I think if your talking about the part were there sitting around and troy says you deserve the money but your not going to get it. THose guys werent in the band they were just hanger ons. Like an entourage for rappers they were basically troys bitches getting him coffee and smokes. But i do agree troy is just a smuck that never deserved to have a film deal to begin with

uh....

i think you guys missed something.

The two dudes who he was yelling that at are the two guys who ended up directing this documentary.

The two guys, the co-directors of the the movie whom Troy said weren't going to get any money were the co-managers (it says in the opening clips) of the band. They managed the band in the begining and thus are absolutely entitled to their cut. They were being more than reasonable. This is such a great film about the danger of rapid success, its fantastically put together with great moments that feel ripped right out of movie, like the scene where Troy is at the University Film Lecture, and that final image of Troy standing there smoking, talking to himself. Brilliant, a magnificent piece of documentary film making that all prospective film makers should be forced to watch, if only to save them from their own hubris.

One day in production class in the film school I attended, my teacher stands up in front of the class and says, "DON'T DO THIS!!!", and then puts on Overnight. I think you're totally right -- that doc ought to be standard viewing in all film schools. You can learn for more from other people's mistakes than from their successes.

I'm about to watch this movie, Overnight, for the second time on IFC (1:45 AM showing). I'm a little embarrassed to say that tonight was the first time I had ever seen it. I am fascinated by a previous poster's suggestion that this documentary feels a little rigged. I must admit, it does seem a little like we're taken into an unfolding world that I have never seen go this way in real life. Is this really a presentation of reality?

I guess I'm concerned that the real craftsmanship, here, is a fabrication using the emotional vulnerabilities within us, the viewer. I will watch more closely this time instead of simply reacting in the manner orchestrated by this documentary. I'm not saying that it is absolutely a fabrication. I'm just saying that I will watch with different eyes this time.

Thanks, previous poster.

I think you are the one not getting it. They were asked, by Duffy, to co-manage the band. One of them even seems to have arranged the meeting with Flom, who finally gave them their recording sessions. They were indeed entitled to some money for the work they did.

The argument about them being "hanger ons" only has merit if Duffy had told them, previously, to go get a life. These were guys who quit their job; if they weren't going to get any money, Duffy should have told them that from the start.
