My guess of where the actual truth lies

Let me start by saying that this doc was put together better than the movie Boondock Saints regardless of the obvous bias in the movie against Duffy by two "friends" who had a vendetta against him. The doc is breezily edited with no dull moments.

I also checked out the following links which give us both sides of the story:

I agree Troy Duffy was a major *beep* But he was spot on that no matter how decent they were as a musical band, the only reason they got a contract was because of his film related breakthrough. Talented musical bands like that are dime a dozen. Without Troy, they have very tiny chance of meeting the right people for success. And even with that break, the band didn't sell more than a few hundred records. ANd of that, I wonder how many were bought by friends.

Does that mean Troy had a right to throw that in their face every single time? No. He was being a classless jerk, no doubt. He could have been a benevolent dictator to his buddies in the band.

One thing I would have liked to have seen was more exploration of the William Morris Agency. That was a pretty awful deal they made for Troy on TBS. Granted, considering how little demand the movie was in, Troy was never going to get a fair deal. You have to give up something major to entice a studio in picking it up. But for him not to have ANY percentage of the profits on video revenue is ridiculous since it was obvious that is whre any potential revenue lay.

I think it was a dickish move of the documentary guys to show that producer guy Chris B. hitting on another woman after dedicating his love for his sugar mama girlfriend. A lot of that stuff is common in HOllywood. you can break up a lot of relationships in Hollywood that way as a lot of them have indulged in some kind of inappropriate sexual behavior. If that couple is already broken up, then I guess it is a valid inclusion as no harm is done. But as a viewer, I guess I am happy they included such funny hypocritical behavior.

Actually it's not ridiculous at all. He was a first time film director that got to work with a budget of SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS to perfect his vision! That privilege alone is his pay. Do you know how many sh!tty films directors have to work on and/or fund themselves before they can actually get a budget like that (if they don't have nepotism on their side)? Troy Duffy had the opportunity of a lifetime and he blew it. If "Overnight" is a real documentary and not a mockumentary, that is...

I'm with you. Troy dug his own grave as far as taking box office over DVD sales. He said himself that he expected it to go to number 1 at the box office. The reason the studio gave him 7m is because he had the ego the sell the idea that the movie would do well at the box office. If he said hey I think this would be a great straight to DVD movie he would have been given a way smaller budget say 1.5m and he would have got a cut of DVD sales. But he was so sure of it making big money that they give him 7 expecting atleast say 20m at the boxoffice. There is no way they would give anyone in the world 7m to make a straight to DVD movie. If duffy had any idea he would have known it wouldn't have done well at the box office after Harvey dropped him. If it got any sort of real release Harvey would have counter programed his ass

Hey, if you're going to be an ass, hitting on other women, don't do it in front of the cameras.

I haven't seen this film in a couple years, but this guy blew his big break, which is impressive.
