A revenge flick

Okay,

No hate involved at all.

"Overnight" is a very entertaining and interesting inside view of the Film making business. Granted.

I remember that from the day "The Boondock Saints" was released I always heard people talking about it (I am European). It took me more than another 10 years to finally see it myself in 2012. The film itself is kind of trash. But it was entertaining enough to sit through without problems (which does not apply to many other films). If I watch a film from beginning to end without being bored, that is a statement. I still think TBS is an overrated film, which is unintentionally funny and just a cheap and bad Tarantino-Rip-Off. What I mostly hated about the film was that it justified self justice and death penalty. I do not like the statements of the film - therefor I am NOT a fan of the movie or Duffy whatsoever (far from it).

That said I was really ready to hate Duffy after watching the film "overnight".

But I did not. and here is why:

The film breaths the air of revenge. I think the filmmakers were just as egocentrical as the "villain" Duffy. They even recorded material about not being able to pay for the rent (the filmmakers themselves). I found that very cheap and it was obvious that they were already aiming to make such a negative view on Duffy. And if Duffy did not sell his script, there would not be a movie called "overnight".

I just want to point out a few things:

Who in this world is able to sell a script to Weinstein and after being turned down finding another production company financing it?

Who on this board would feel able to direct an actor like Willem Dafoe?

Duffy might be a huge *beep* (like many other directors too), but I could not see that in the film. All I could see was a person, that could not deal with the sudden success and the pressure and who was desperate to finish his project (very human in my opinion). Yes he was a douchebag, but that can be explained by his lack of experience. And also trusting the people who filmed "overnight".

IN THE END he made his movie and that is all that counts. I don't mention the huge success on DVD and Video, but that should be considered.

The bottom line of that movie is, that Duffy is a lucky and very talented person and it is PURE WONDER that he finally finished his movie, which was far from being a catastrophe. (I did not like it, but it was entertaining indeed.)

And now, 10 years later, he made a sequel. Let him earn just 1 million dollars drom DVD-dales and what do you have? A very unconventionel success-story.

How can you call this person a loser? because he only earned 1 instead of 100 Million dollars? My god, calm down.

Interesting Film but not effective in blaming Duffy. I just find this film totally biased and don't think the filmmakers have more integrity than Duffy himself. it was obvious that many of the people talking honestly thought it would not be published. I remember the card playing scene and I could see one of the filmmakers smiling about having some good footage. I just don't trust them at all. Just my thoughts

The last scene shows the film makers drinking and having low paid jobs. An attempt to feel sorry for them? They have been responsible for their own choice to film that movie.
