I think it's cool to show gang members of the same sex in love. People are not always what they seem and this is an issue that Garcia had the courage to show. It is out there. Not that it will make it easier for gang members to come out. Because the Latino culture doesn't make it easy. It's not easy for anybody. Though the songwriter of "Reaper" did come out way before the film.
I was disappointed in the ending. I would rather the couple got away and lived happily ever after, but I guess the producer saw it a different way. It seems to me that most gay love stories end in tragedy, but for the characters, I was hoping for a better ending. I think more time should have been spent on the relationship. It seemed strange to me that when they were alone, they acted like "homies" and not lovers, but again maybe that goes back to the Latino or gang mentality. No offence to anyone, just wondering. And why wouldn't you warn your lover and try to get away or did I miss something?
