Questionz...

Erm... I want to know whether this movie ends happily or tragically? As in, did they get together or are they forced apart due to strong opposition from family/public and such?? Please do help me out, thanks! I didnt get a chance to watcht this!

That is a very good question, and I think everyone will give different answers. But to me, I think this film had a happy ending.
Any other way and it would have spoilt it.

They don't end up together, Max (younger brother) ends up with another guy and no longer wants to be with Harry (older brother), Harry wants to be with Max and the Max's boyfriend though, but neither Max or his boyfriend want any part of that *shrug*

I felt that it was let down by its ending, because there was no consummation of the relationship and desires between the two brothers. Perhaps I'm being perverted, but I really felt unsatisfied that they didn't end up together, or at the very least fully consummate their relationship; it just felt false that they wouldn't.

... and on an entirely selfish note, I loved Bryce Johnston's character and he seemed so utterly sad and helpless and alone at the end of the film.

thats true. I think Harry was very complex.. He seemed not to be gay. Harry and Max did consumate their relationship in Bermuda but offscreen.

Max as narrator seems fairly aware of himself and relatively honest. So Harry is the main focus and is tragically really scewed up. First of all he is an alcoholic and drunk through most of the film. How seriously can one take anything he says or does? He is not even sure of what he wants. Bothe brothers seem to want what the other has - e.g., fame success, sex - but don't know what to do with it when they get it. The film ends on the same note of ambiguity that it has been playing through its whole length. Max seems to have found some stability (but has he?) Harry is just as envious as he has been (even to his lost forskin). We are led to believe they will continue to "be there for each other" in spite of everything.
I think this ambiguity is as much because the author/director was not sure of what he wanted to say, as it is theme. He wanted to raise some questions but did not know how he wanted them answered. The "behind the scenes" feature on the dvd gives this same impression of searching for something without knowing what it is. But isn''t that the theme of the film?
