Pedophile movie

Ok, here's the problem I have with this movie:

Let's put the incest issue aside. I really don't care what two consenting people do in private as long as nobody gets hurt.

My problem is the age issue. In the movie, Max is 16 and Harry is 23. That's bad but it's not THAT big of a deal. It's still illegal though. And Harry worries about what people would think about him if anybody found out. He should be more worried about going to jail.

The problem is, Max said the first time they had sex was two years before the movie takes place. That puts Max at 14 and Harry at 21. THAT'S SICK! A *beep* 21 year old having sex with a 14 year old??? A 16 year old is much more mature sexually than a 14 year old. Even if Max came on to Harry, Harry knew better and should have said no.

Now here's the sickest part of the movie...

When Harry goes to meet the yoga instructor who in his 40's. We don't know how old Max was the first time they had sex. He was probably 15 or 16. But this guy is a flat out pedophile and belongs in prison. Even worse, Harry goes to see him and doesn't say "Stay the *beep* away from my bother!!!" No, he has sex with the guy! And EVEN WORSE, the movie makes this pedophile out to be someone full of wisdom. WTF??? He's a creep! He should die!

And then there's whatsername. The woman Max has sex with. She's breaking the law too.

The movie would have been a lot better if Max was 18.

ermmmm 14 is legal in a number of states in the US. Ultimately age of consent is dependant on state law not federal. More than half of the states of the US have an age of consent of 16 or lower.

I realize this is almost a year after your post, but, I had to point out, you're technically not accurate. There are many states which allow a person (boy OR girl) to engage in sexual intercourse at the age of fourteen, provided there are certain conditions met. Such as the age of the older person (usually no more than three years older). So to say that 14 is NOT LEGAL anywhere in the USA for boys is inaccurate.

In addition, I wonder why you specified for boys. I realize the movie dealt with boys and not girls, but was there any other reason you made that clarification? Just curious.

I'm not saying, I'm just sayin'...

So if Max was two years older it would completely okay for him have a sexual relationship with his own brother.... Yeah that makes perfect sense.

My Favorite Show has fake visions, little boy cats and pineapple smoothies. How about yours?

The yoga teacher is not a paedophile. The word "paedo" means "child", specifically "prepubescent" as in under the age of 13. What he did might have been a little dodgy and/or ill-advised, but get your facts right.

Incidentally, the "phile" means "love" and does not necessarily mean "sex".

No, he's not a pedophile, necessarily.

Anyone with a moderate grasp of LANGUAGE can see that a 40 year old having sex with a 13 year old would not be a "Pedo"phile, they would be an "ephebo"phile, from the Latin "Ephebos" which means "Youth". This correction of terminology does not EXCUSE the relationship, simply clarifies the terminology.

As in every man who's ever looked at a cheerleader and thought, "Dang...that's nice."
Nearly everyone on the planet is an ephebophile, as evidenced by our obession with looking younger and how easy it is to slap a sexy young man or woman in an ad to sell a product.

The sooner we deal with that fact, the sooner we can stop mislabeling people with crap labels trumped up by a fear-mongering media...

"pedophile"....god, I can't wait til that freakin' word goes the way of *beep* are so HORRIBLY connoted and HORRIBLY misused by uneducated morons...and both, in their time, have been primarily used by @$$holes with agendas and the uneducated masses who believe whatever they see on TV/read in the paper...

Ok hehe sorry but some of you have to relax ,you guys are getting really upset over a movie. Definitly many aspects of it were wrong and some were ok. I think the movie touch on things that could happen maby not all at once hehe but still calm down.

I agree with you completely FeiLongFX, the age was a big problem for me.

They should have made Max 18 + Harry 21 in the present, and 16 + 19 in the past - that way Harry would still be his older brother, and still would have the wisdom of having been through the business, but the ages would have been more reasonable, and therefore the issue would have been the relationship between them, rather than Max's VERY young age.

I wish they had've made that small change - after all, Cole could easily play 18.

...nothing in a film is done without reason. Every detail sis always carefully thought out.
And the reason in this case is so that moralists can enter epileptic fits when they see the film!..Sells much better!
Hilarious, I read posts above where one says 'it's fine' if the girl was 16, but if she was '14' the man 'must die' ?!

Well, I'm not some conservative moralist, but sex with young children is definitely crossing the line with me.

I didn't have any problem with the consensual incest, only with the age difference.

One interesting issue.. Max was the younger.. but also the initiator of the sex. In the movie he knew from the time he was 7 he wanted to have sex with Harry - and knew he was gay younger than that.

Many children (myself included) already knew our preferences and also what we desired - even well before puberty - so the question of 'innocence' is an interesting one.
