Did the blown call really happen?

In the last game between Permian and Dallas Carter? The ref seemed to be secretly backing Dallas Carter, though I think it might of been implied for the sake of the movie.

Yep, but in reality the pass was much longer, and the result kept Carter's game-winning drive going.

The pass slipped through the receiver's hands as he was falling to the ground, bounced off the turf, and landed back in his hands. It was called a completion.

Were the Dallas Carter players as big of punks/cheap shot artists as portrayed in the movie?

8 years late replying, but just to add, although it happened, it was on Carter's 1st down, according to the book, not 4th down as portrayed in the film. So even if it had been correctly called as incomplete, in reality Dallas could still have continued their game-winning drive, whereas in the film it would have been a turnover. Hollywood and dramatic effect and all that.
