I honestly think this is one of the most underrated movies.

And I'd stand by that. I don't know why it was so panned when it came out. Its gotta be discouraging to Sandler to have all of his most ambitious performances get poorly received when he does such a good job in them. Then he just resorts to movies like Grown Ups. I wish people wouldn't give his dramatic efforts so much crap.

It wasn't as bad as some people led me to believe. From now on I give movies the benefit of the doubt. I dont see why so many people *beep* on this movie just because it had a message.

It wasn't bad. I saw it on a local FOX affliate. ;)

I loved Sandler in Anger Management, my favorite of his. This one was good, but I didn't think it was as funny (obviously since this is not strictly a comedy).

I thought the film was decently funny, wildly entertaining, had an intelligent plot with a nice twist, and in the end proved to deliver a good message. A solid 8/10 for me.

It's my guess that it's only "underrated" by those who don't like *any* of Sander's work.

This movie probably would have been better received had it been released over the winter holidays rather than in the summer.
The producers might have thought it already drew too much from It's a Wonderful Life, but they should have embraced those similarities and marketed as such.

Definitely. Seems like any film that dares to make one fart joke nowadays is met with hate. This for me had a perfect mix of light hearted humor and a great moral. And I also thought Sandler gave a fantastic performance, especially in the scene when he learned that his dad had died.

I agree, OP.

The ending really made it for me personally. When Adam lifts Nick Swardson and throws him on the bed and Nick starts laughing wildly, I get immediately uplifted.

I agree with the OP.
This is a good movie, intelligent and it had a great theme.

Definitely among his best work, and looking at it separate from "Adam Sandler films", it still is a good film by itself. Mixes elements of drama and comedy beautifully..

The night is a very dark time for me.
